    Back to Main Guide

    Removed Buffs are those that used to exist in mgftw that you could use in-game within the past. However, since now or within a previous update, these buffs have been removed and thus can no longer be used. This also includes buffs that are within the game but have been disabled as of right now.

    ^ Indicates that the Buff is temporary and will expire after a certain period of time has passed.
    * Indicates that there needs to be an event currently active in order to be able to get the Buff from that event.
    + Indicates that the Buff has a Buff Enhancement that can be applied to it.


    1. On Fire+ (Offensive Buffs #1)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $450 Cash
    Required Level: 29

    Description:
    There will be a 1% chance of setting an infected on fire on each gun shot.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The On Fire Buff is more effective when you use it with a primary weapon with a high rate of fire or clip size.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    1% chance of setting any infected on fire on each gun shot.

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Fire Boost: Increases chance to activate to 3%.
    2. |E| Halloween Spirit^* (Offensive Buffs #5)

    Event Requirement:
    • Get it for 20 Sour Candies from the Sour Candy Market within !event. Only during the Halloween 2018 event.
    Description:
    You take 20% less damage from special tanks and deal 20% more damage to them.
    <Works until November 21st>

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Halloween Spirit Buff lets you deal increased and take reduced damage from special tanks while it's equipped. Use it if you want to be balanced in both offense and defense.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    You deal +20% Increased damage and take -20% reduced damage VS tanks.

    3. Intense Fire (Offensive Buffs #9)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $27,000 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 30 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 180

    Description:
    Infected ignited by you will receive 1% of the victims health as bonus damage per fire tick.
    <No effect on tanks>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Intense Fire Buff will let you deal higher fire damage over time to special infected on fire. So if you are going to be using molotovs a lot on the map, this is a good buff to have equipped.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Infected ignited by you take +1% of their HP as bonus damage per fire tick.
    <No effect on tanks>
    4. Car Explosion Resistance (Defensive Buffs #3)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $855 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 5 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 201

    Description:
    You will be shielded from car explosions, unless you provoke them.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • As long as you don't shoot any cars, even if you are to be blown up by one, the Car Explosion Resistance Buff will protect you from all explosion damage. This can be potentially useful in VS where it saves you from dying in certain cases.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Immune to damage from car explosions, unless you provoke them.
    5. Shaman Handler (Defensive Buffs #5)

    Description:
    Maximizes your defense against Shaman or Supreme Shaman tanks.
    Warning: If you get mutated, the buff will stop working!


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Shaman Handler Buff when equipped can make fighting the Shaman or Supreme Shaman tanks easier for you to handle. It won't protect against the inferno ability however so be careful.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Max defense gained against Shaman/Supreme Shaman tanks. If you're mutated, buff stops working.
    6. Knight Handler (Defensive Buffs #6)

    Description:
    Maximizes your defense against Knight or Supreme Knight tanks.
    Warning: If you get mutated, the buff will stop working!


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Knight Handler Buff when equipped can make fighting the Knight or Supreme Knight tanks easier for you to handle. Don't go flying though, you won't be protected from fall damage that you take as a result of the earthquakes.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Max defense gained against Knight/Supreme Knight tanks. If you're mutated, buff stops working.
    7. Bomb Tank Protection (Defensive Buffs #7)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $6,075 Cash
    Required Level: 50

    Description:
    If you get caught by a bomb tank's ultimate explosion you will not die and will be stunned for 13 seconds. While stunned, you will not be able to command your character.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you don't want to get permanently killed when the bomb tank explodes nearby, use the Bomb Tank Protection Buff to protect you from the effects.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    You won't die if caught within a bomb tank's explosion. However you'll become stunned for 13 seconds instead.
    8. Against the Odds (Defensive Buffs #9)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $52,650 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 135
    Required Level: 180

    Description:
    If you are the last survivor alive in finale/survival maps you become immune to all slows, stuns, staggers, flinging or Special Infected pins, and your defense will be maxed. While performing a use action, no infected sources will be able to interrupt it. Common Infected in the vicinity will also be instantly killed.
    <Requires at least 4 human players on the server to be active>

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you are the last survivor and need to try getting to the saferoom or saving the other survivors, having the Against the Odds Buff equipped can be useful in stopping most CC from affecting you.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    If you are the last survivor alive in finale/survival maps, you become immune to all slows, stuns, staggers, flinging or Special Infected pins and have maximum defense. Cannot be interrupted while performing any use action. Common Infected nearby will be instantly killed.

    9. |E| Ex-Infected Mourn* (Defensive Buffs #25)

    Event Requirement:
    • Obtain it from the White Chocolate Box for 15 Cupid Tokens, letting you get the buff at random from the list of buffs you don't yet have.
    Description:
    After being released from a Special Infected trapping you, you will be unable to be trapped by the same class of Special Infected. The effect lasts until a different class traps you, which you will then be immune to that class instead.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • When released from any special infected, you become immune to crowd control from that infected with the Ex-Infected Mourn Buff, as long as you don't get trapped and released by another type of special infected.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    On being released from special infected, become unable to be trapped by same class of special infected. Effect lasts until different class of special infected traps you.

    10. Vital Spirit (Defensive Buffs #25)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $4,725 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 5 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 90

    Description:
    Upon being revived, 20% of the total health you receive is gained as bonus permanent health.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • When you are revived after having been incapacitated, the bonus permanent health gained with the Vital Spirit Buff will become useful in keeping your health up.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    On being revived, 20% of total HP received becomes bonus permanent HP.
    11. Shoving Expert+ (Ability Buffs #1)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $225 Cash
    Required Level: 20

    Description:
    This buff will grant additional resistance to your arms and will disable the shoving penalty as survivor.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Shoving Expert Buff is a great buff to be using when you need to be shoving frequently. Use it in situations where you will need to shove something out of a survivor or to shove them out of Glutton or Supreme Glutton Tanks when they have been eaten.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Disables shove penalties.

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Strong Arm: Allows you to shove chargers to stagger them. +1% increased chance to free someone from Glutton belly.
    12. Agitated Rescue (Ability Buffs #3)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $7,200 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 10 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 140

    Description:
    In finales, when the rescue vehicle has arrived you will be able to run through common infected, and will also be immune to most slow effects.
    <Doesn't resist slow effects from survivor buffs or status effects>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • In VS, when you need to get to the rescue vehicle with tanks and or other special infected on your tail, use the Agitated Rescue Buff to help prevent any slow downs from most infected effects.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    On rescue vehicle arrival, able to run through common infected and become immune to most slow effects.
    <Doesn't resist slow effects from survivor buffs or status effects>
    13. |Q| Hunterized (Ability Buffs #5)

    Quest Requirements:
    You can get the |Q| Hunterized Buff as a quest reward from the supply boxes after completing the Hunterized Quest (Level 135) within Celine's Questline.

    Description:

    Enables you to jump like a hunter after killing 20 special infected during the round. You don't need to crouch to jump and you can temporarily disable it by pressing the walk key (SHIFT) twice.
    <You don't take fall damage except in forbidden areas>
    <Cooperative servers only>

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you need to get to higher areas fast, use the Hunterized Buff and crouch to jump up to where you need to go.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    After killing 20 special infected, you're able to jump like a hunter for the rest of the round. No crouch needed to jump. Can be temporarily disabled by pressing the <SHIFT> key twice.

    14. Motivator (Ability Buffs #18)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $31,500 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 125 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 150

    Description:
    Gives you the ability to shove a fellow survivor that is at least 50 levels below your level to increase their movement speed by 20% for 20 seconds.
    <30 second cooldown>
    <Cannot motivate whilst inside a saferoom>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • When you know that a survivor is falling behind the rest of the group, it is a good idea to go back to that player and use the Motivator Buff on them to speed things up for them.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    You can shove a fellow survivor 50 levels below your level to give them +20% movement speed for 20 seconds.

    15. Emetic Agent+ (Ability Buffs #18)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $181,350 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 950 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 232

    Description:
    While inside a tank belly, you can access the !buy menu to activate the Emetic Agent, forcing yourself out the belly. In doing so, you will be afflicted with 30 Decay stacks (max 60), suffer 25 seconds of Gastric Juice status effect, but won't be eaten again for 60 seconds.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you know that you will not be able to be shoved out of a tank's belly while you are close to death, you can use the Emetic Agent Buff to save your life by instantly releasing yourself from the tank.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    If inside a tank belly, you can access the !buy menu to activate the Emetic Agent, forcing yourself out the belly. You gain 30 Decay stacks (max 60), 25 seconds of Gastric Juice bad status effect and cannot be eaten again for 60 seconds.

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Emetic Evasion: 50% chance while inside a tank belly to avoid faster decay by gunshots.
    16. Double Projectile (Equipment Buffs #1)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $675 Cash
    Required Level: 5

    Description:
    You will throw 2 pipe bomb and vomit jar projectiles instead of one.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you want double the power, double the effects and double the effectiveness with the use of pipebomb buffs equip the Double Projectile Buff.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Allows you to throw 2 pipe bomb and vomit jar projectiles.
    17. Knife+ (Equipment Buffs #2)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $1,350 Cash
    Required Level: 1

    Description:
    Gives you a knife that can be used to release yourself from an SI attack once. You can use your knife after 1 second of being trapped using the ZOOM button.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Knife Buff can be useful for saving you from special infected attacks. However you way want to save using it until when you only really need it.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Gives you a knife that you can use to release yourself from SI. This can be done after 1 second of being trapped using the ZOOM button.

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Throwing Knives: Hold USE and shove to throw a knife, dealing 750 damage/stagger to SI or 500 damage/5s bleed (100 dmg/s) to Tanks. Won't use normal knives. Max count equals Knife count + 1.

    18. Seeking Grenade+ (Equipment Buffs #7)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $66,150 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 50 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 180

    Description:
    Causes any pipe bombs thrown by you to home in on the nearest Special Infected or Tank. The pipe bomb will take 10 seconds to detonate but deals an additional 400 flat damage.
    <Incompatible with Frag Grenade buff>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Seeking Grenade Buff makes your pipe bomb take way longer than usual to detonate, however it'll deal more damage. Use it if you want to deal more damage and/or inflict bad status effects strategically.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Allows pipe bombs to seek for nearby special infected/tanks. It takes 10 seconds to detonate, but deals +400 additional flat damage.
    <Incompatible with Frag Grenade buff>

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Short Fuse: Lowers fuse time down to 6 seconds.
    19. Frag Grenade+ (Equipment Buffs #14)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $2,700 Cash
    Required Level: 65

    Description:
    Your pipebomb will instantly detonate upon collision.
    <Incompatible with Seeking Grenade buff>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • Your pipe bomb will instantly detonate as soon as it collides with anything when using the Frag Grenade Buff. So aim carefully and be sure not to throw it near cars if you're aiming for infected near them.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Your pipe bomb will instantly detonate on collision.

    20. Dense Vomit Cloud (Equipment Buffs #18)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $7,650 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 5 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 110

    Description:
    After throwing a vomit jar, the cloud that it leaves will continue to bile infected that pass through it.
    <Versus: It can only affect 3 special infected>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • In VS, if you know that you are expecting an ambush attack from infected in certain areas. You can throw a vomit jar projectile at where you think special infected are going to try coming at you from. This makes it easier to anticipate it and survive the attack.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    After throwing vomit jars, infected continue to be biled while passing through it.
    <Versus: it can only affect 3 special infected>
    21. Enhanced Pills+ (Equipment Buffs #18)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $6,075 Cash
    Required Level: 85

    Description:
    40% of the health restored by taking pills will be permanent health.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Enhanced pills Buff can be useful for you if you need to get some permanent health back while you only have temporary health.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    40% of the health restored by taking pills becomes permanent HP.

    Buff Enhancements that can be applied to this Buff:
    • Supplementary Pills: Extra permanent health is gained instead of converted.
    22. Speedy Water (Utility Buffs #3)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $900 Cash
    Required Level: 1

    Description:
    While standing in water you will have infinite adrenaline, causing you to move faster.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • In water areas where traversing may be difficult, you can equip the Speedy Water Buff to make travelling in water faster and easier.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Gain infinite adrenaline effect while in water.
    23. Witch Peacemaker (Utility Buffs #4)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $9,450 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 5 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 95

    Description:
    You will not startle witches unless you shoot at them. If somebody startles the witch, it'll still hunt you down.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Witch Peacemaker Buff when equipped will never let witches be angered by you whenever you walk near them. Just don't shoot them and you should be ok.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    You will not startle witches unless you shoot at them. The witch can still hunt you down.
    24. Heavy Gunner (Utility Buffs #6)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $8,550 Cash
    Required Level: 10

    Description:
    Miniguns or mounted machine guns you use will never overheat and deal double damage. You also gain 15% defense while using one.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The Heavy Gunner Buff will make using miniguns more effective against the infected. Letting you deal more damage to them and never having to worry about the minigun becoming unusable. You'll also gain some defense to help out with your survival when aggroing the infected over to you.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Miniguns/mounted machine guns in use by you never overheat, deal x2 damage and give +15% defense.
    25. |E| General Shield (Expires)^* (Utility Buffs #9)

    Event Requirements:
    Get it for 10 Bloody Candies from the Candy Market within !event. Only during the Halloween 2015 event.

    Description:
    Shields yourself from every status including mutation, poison, curse, clot bacteria, internal bleeding and others.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The General Shield Buff is considered to be useful for those tanks that like to give away a lot of bad status effects, such as the Shaman, Supreme Shaman and Hybrid Tank. Be sure to equip the buff for when these tanks do appear.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Gives complete protection from all bad status effects.
    26. |V| Self preservation (Utility Buffs #14)

    Buff Requirements:
    Honor Points: 60 Honor Points

    Description:
    After 20 (40 if hanging from ledge) seconds have passed since incapacitation, your character will get up automatically. Taking damage resets the countdown.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you are incapacitated/hanging and have no way to self revive yourself, don't take any damage and your survivor will be automatically revived with the Self preservation Buff.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    If incapacitated for 20 (40 if hanging from ledge) seconds. You will automatically get up. Taking damage resets the countdown.

    27. Protector (Utility Buffs #15)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $10,350 Cash
    Required Level: 201

    Description:
    Players that are 50 levels lower than you will gain 2% defense against all damage (except falls) for each percent of their health missing (Max: 30%). Additionally, reviving an incapacitated player 50 levels lower than you will grant them 90% defense and CC immunity for 10 seconds.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you are on a server where there are players 50 levels or more lower than you, you can equip the Protector Buff to give them defense against the infected. Additionally you'll be a big help to them whenever you revive them from incapacitation.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Players with 50 or more levels lower than you gain +2% increased defense (except falls) for each % of missing HP (Max: 30%). On reviving any incapacitated player 50 or more levels lower than you, they gain +90% increased defense and CC immunity for 10 seconds.

    28. Boxing Bag (Utility Buffs #16)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $6,480 Cash
    Required Level: 180

    Description:
    Special Infected (except tanks) will prefer to attack you when there are players that are at least 50 levels lower than you within 400 units. The infected will even leave any trapped victims, they have to chase you instead.
    <Doesn't override minigun aggro>

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • If you are on a server where there are players 50 levels or more lower than you, you can equip the Boxing Bag Buff to force all special infected to attack you when they aggro any player nearby yourself. The special infected will even be forced to aggro you if they are currently trapping any victims.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    If any nearby survivors are 50 or more levels lower than you, special infected (including those pinning victims) will prefer to attack you within 400 units.

    29. Big Check (Economy and Exp Buffs #5)

    Buff Requirements:
    Cost: $6,750 Cash
    FR-Pills Cost: 1 FR-Pills
    Required Level: 50

    Description:
    Increases by 20% the cash, pill and experience rewards from completing quests.
    <Buff must be equipped at the start of the round (before someone leaves the saferoom)>


    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • Before you complete any quest, equip the Big Check Buff and make it active before the start of a round (or in the scenario server) to earn additional quest rewards.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    +20% increased cash, FR-pills and experience quest rewards.
    <Buff must be equipped at the start of the round (before someone leaves the saferoom)>
    30. |E| Slacker* (Economy and Exp Buffs #6)

    Event Requirement:
    • Get it for 25 Summer Tokens from the Summer Market within !event. Only during the Summer 2020 event.

    Description:
    Gives you a constant flow of 3 bounty every 60 seconds but denies bounty from all other sources. Cooldown reduction for this is increased by 50% if 20% of your team is dead, by 100% if 50% of your team is dead and by 200% if 80% of your team is dead.

    Tips on Buff Usage:
    • The |E| Slacker Buff passively gives you bounty at intervals while also denying any bounty gain elsewhere. It's a small price to pay, although you should still do whatver you can to help the survivors out survive the campaign/scenario. Just don't forget to use your bounty before you reach 100.

    Benefit in Buff Sets:
    Gain 3 bounty every 60 seconds, but deny it from all other sources. CD reduction for this is increased by +50%/+100%/+200% if 20%/50%/80% of your team is dead.
