If it's not hardware then idk really... did you try on a local game? Also keep in mind that too much melee tires youand you will be slower to kill

I don't think so is hardware to. You have good processor to. I still play on old amd 6000+ and gtx260 and no problem ;).

Sounds maybe stupid but make a try, i suggest remove all local l4d2 thing from your steam and + all l4d2 downloads (add-ons,dedicate server...),
then update all thing again.Update your local game and all your add-ons.
Also update driver for your grapfic card.

Doesn't mean anything if you can reduce the CPU clock say by half :P so instead of using 3.0 gHz for example, he'd only be using 1.5 which reduces performance by alot because he would be running windows, side and background programs at the same time. Also, there's a chance that the processor is bad or not working properly.

rickhunter, try playing a similar game and see how it goes. If you have slow performance too, it's definitely not your l4d2 settings.

30FPS will make everything seem slow for sure. if this is a problem that suddenly came about without any changes to your hardware then I'd say video card is dying/overheating.

9800 is not a strong card at all. with that card you should be running a lower resolution for sure and keep details low.

I try BF3 and call of duty 4 with no problem.

Maybe Tank is right, Its a programing issue, but it make no sense to slow ever body because of rusher or slowing the speed of the controls. (it will not stop them from rushing) I found that other players have the same issue. when they explain to me why they decline my invite to join game.

Thank for all that have help:)

Okay, rickhunter, here are a few things you can try; I'm a certified lunatic -- er, network admin -- so I may be of some use:
    1. Pull up your Task Manager (for me, I just right-click on my toolbar and choose "Start Task Manager") and look under the "Processes" tab. Look at which programs you have running. If there are some unneeded ones going, select "End Process" on them. If you do not know what some of them are, right-click on the ones in question and choose "Open File Location;" from there you will see which is which.
    2. As I also have an AMD 6-core 1100T, running at 3.4~.7ghz, and not having issues, I can confirm it is not your processor. And since you may play other games without issue, it is most likely not your memory, either, though just to be sure I would run Windows Memory Diagnostic (I do that monthly anyway). You can access the Diagnostic by restarting your computer and pressing Esc while your OS loads. Be aware also that Steam constantly has issues with graphics cards; I have a strong feeling your problem is with Steam, not L4D2. Your card is a workhorse, but I am convinced that since nVidia is now on the 5-series (I have a 560GTX Ti myself) for desktops and 6-series for laptops, your card is not receiving the support or updates it needs anymore. nVidia is like Microsoft in that respect: They will not support their own products after about 5-6 years. Thus I would seriously consider buying a newer graphics card. Before I forget, you should also definitely check your motherboard; it may need a flash update.
    3. Do not run more than 2-3 programs at once while playing games. Not only is it a needless performance hit to your machine, it is also extremely unsafe, as being online and idle can lead to all sorts of bad things. When I play L4D2, I have minimal programs running in the background.
    4. If all else fails, if you get a new card and it still does the same thing as before, clear out all your cookies and history from your browser, then uninstall L4D2. Wait approximately 2-3 minutes (long enough for Steam to completely stop) then re-install the game. Sometimes clearing your cache makes all the difference, for reasons known only to God and Bill Gates.

Should none of these suggestions work, stop listening to people like me. ;)

I give it a try. I already do 3 of the 4 item, as I run a lean machine. I test them all again and give update. Thank for all the help and have a great week end! :)

I try the above with no luck. I do thank you for taking the time to help.

:( I thinks it's a program issue on MG server only, as it run fine on other L4D2 server and on event that are hosted by MG server.

    Thanks to all that help.

30 FPS r not smooth and ur actions will be delayed slightly

30 FPS is fine and it's not the frame rate that determines delay lol, that's server latency. the human eye can perceive around 12 frames per second, so it's only at around 20 that you start seeing a difference between smooth and saturated graphics

It's not really possible to define how many frames the eye can percieve since it works as a stream rather than frames, but the difference between 30 and 60 fps is at a point where the difference is more about image quality and bluring than "lag". This java app: http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/ shows a good approximation of the effect.

So no, 30 fps will not cause this laggy effect but it's not ideal, and is more likely to cause eye strain.

Damn you weejocky :P lemme rephrase it:
the human eye can distinguish about 12 different images in 1 second, so if a video passes images at a 60FPS rate, it seems smoother because it goes too fast for the brain to picture each frame individually. 30 is about just the same, whereas at 20 you can start to see the difference.

It's all an optical illusion, god dammit!

If you always get 30+ then it's okay but if u get 30 1 sec and then after 5 secs, ur frames drop to 20-25 then it sucks so this is why i say 30fps suck and rather get 45+ to be safe but in bf3, i get 40-55 mostly and i don't even find that smooth to play on as i do with 60+ :rolleyes2:
