    Goodbye

    Hello everybody,

I'm not a fan of long speeches, so I'm making this short. I'm leaving MG.

There are basically two reasons which forced me to make this decision.

Reason one is, that I was donating during the past two years and I was more than patient, even though I got disappointed again and again by empty promises when it comes to PR-VS improvements. During that time I never lost hope that we get a decent, well balanced modded L4D2 gaming experience one day, and then Clan Wars. We were trying to support you by posting problem and bug descriptions in various threads to accelerate the development cycle and make this happen; eventually for the sake of making the mod more enjoyable for everybody.

The team scramble is broken for months now, and it's still not fixed. You either get scrambled to the OP team or the noob team, and both options are not enjoyable at all. Everything is done half-way and then gets entirely ignored, just to start over with something completely new. There is zero respect shown here for the donors which is a colossal disappointment. And that leads to reason number two.

After having a more or less successful Clan Wars test match, we were told that Honorcode has cancelled it because he had to sort out some private things. Totally fine with me. BUT then, a few weeks later, we all got WAKE-UP-SLAPPED in the face when he introduced a completely new modification, namely Hidden Infected.

And this is what kills it for me. Hidden Infected is NOT what I, nor any of my clanmates donated for. Still all efforts (not to mention the donor cash to finance the server) go into that non-donor game mode. No word about Clan Wars, no explanation at all. -Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the HI mod or the new Beserker mod, I'm just against the fact that these servers get ALL the attention, while PR-VS gets neglected and goes straight downhill.

I was really looking forward to Clan Wars. And I really, really wanted it to be good. In fact it's the only reason why I created this clan, and invested so much time and money to make this one very special. I would have been amongst the first to praise MG from a mountain top for this, the first who'd come to its defense. But nowadays it would just taste like a lie.

I wish I could have offered you more than this, but it wasn't up to me to make that choice.

Thanks for the good times and farewell my friends!

    -Jones

I don't blame you for your decision Jones, you can only take so many broken promises and lies until you've just had enough of them. A lot of money is being invested into servers the donors did not pay for which is unacceptable.
This is probably just the beginning, because eventually a lot of other people will realize what's going on, stop donating and then leave for good.

Just my two cents, I'll miss having you around man. IF Clan Wars ever comes out I'd love to kick some ass with you - Elements of Pain style :)

I've been trying to find something to base an argument to ask you to stay, but the truth is I've been feeling the same way as you do for months now. After our test match in clan wars failed we were expecting for hc to come back (eventually) and start with this again. After so much time waiting for it, we still don't have it and is not a priority, and we are not even testing anymore. I know, HC told us that he wanted to make it happen the other day, but, I have been here for a long time and even though this should have been released in 2012 we still dont have it in 2014 and its like the carrot and the donkey thing...

As you said, as donors we deserve more respect, it's one thing to be ignored when we ask for a particular thing and another one when its about something that affects everyone or is for the benefit of everyone. Scramble was working good the first day and now it's all fucked again :S Some of my bugs reports were deleted from bugzilla.. so why waste time posting there... But ok, some things I requested have changed (eventually) for the benefit of everyone, and I get that not every change can be done in a day, but Clan Wars is a different story. Whats the point of creating guilds and keep them active by hosting events and stuff like that if there is no ultimate goal....

It's hard to find a reason to stay sometimes, and everyone have their own limit. I remember this happened to me last year too, and the only reason i stayed was because of the friends here, and then the testing of CW gave me some hope but all of that is history now. I have been thinking the same as you and feeling that way for months now, and last week pr versus started to change for good with a new scramble and some changes helped to keep servers active with many players for more time, but versus is not the priority and it all ended there.

I'm gonna think about it for a few more days, and then decide if I stay or leave. As for the EOP I recruited, I'm sorry for not being able to fulfill with the fun wars as I promise back then, It was my mistake to believe that they were really doing their best to give us CW, and double sorry for those who asked me if it was worth donating money and I said yes, I bet they are even more disappointed...

This is a sad day for MG (the community), and this is a huge loss for us. We are not kids anymore, and this may not be a democracy like it has been said so many times here, but we are the donors (directly or indirectly) and I think after all this time we deserve much more respect for our support and they should tell us the truth about this, and then, if its not gonna happen we can can decide if we stay or go...

Its been good playing with you in games jones and its a shame to see you leave, but maybe one day if things pick up again in versus people will return and you will aswell!

Hopefully you keep all of us on steam and dont just get rid off everyone :P
    -----------------
duncan i hope you dont decide to leave man! would suck to have to say goodbye to you in MG, hopefully something will persuade you otherwise and tempt you to stay.

on a different topic, if jones has left, and your debating it..what will become off EOP. That guild has somewhat of a reputation in versus, not going to lie i can see angel stepping up and maybe becoming a co-leader i think she would be a great choice for that position.
    -----------------
I hope this doesnt start a swarm of people leaving now people are actually thinking about this, i love the community here and the people that are in it, would be great if everyone stayed D:

Yea thats the whole point of the story,i liked you write that, we are all here cos of friends first and ofc nice mod, me to inc, and i am donor to,i understand the frustration of Jones to,but we enjoyed play on PR servers last years without guild wars or not, common,we hav it great time,i know last month was prob with scramble but i think was fixed last week, i dont see dat is a good reason leave guys. And MG not force you to donor..But i respect your decision. peace all.

I will miss your YouTube video updates showcasing the fun times you can have on MG. Hopefully you come back for another look when L4D3 comes out (whenever that will be).

I buy stuff from the MG store often because I realize that servers aren't free, and this is one hell of a L4D mod that could very well fold if Marvel/Erik/HC or whoever else decides not to pay out of pocket. Clan wars have no longer become a deal breaker to me, but I can see from a leader's perspective that you would want to challenge yourself to something more than what we've been doing for this long. Can't comment on what has been said from the top about it since I only know but so much about what was/wasn't ready.

That's so negative yet you're still here, why is that?

People should not forget that this is our hobby, we like to do stuff that we think is fun. We're not a company that guarantees patches and professional product support. We really appriciate people that donate it keeps the servers alive but if people stop donating I would just pay it out of my own pocket for as long as I can. HC, Erik and other admins would do the same.

People play here for years and then they suddenly leave just for a scramble bug lol come on. Our mods always have bugs even the game without mods has.

I think sometimes people just want to leave and they're just looking for a reason there's nothing we can do about that anyway.

I think what Jones and Angel were trying to get at is a general feeling of neglect towards PR-VS servers in particular. I can see both sides of the discussion here.

I'm both a donor and a regular PR-VS gamer, and I've held positions of authority in relation to donation/finances in another community (non gaming), so it's a toughie.

Obviously I want PR-VS to be given the attention it needs, as I enjoy it a lot. I like HI, but it's not usually my cup of tea. I also respect the fact that the staff here are volunteers who give time and money to keep the place going. HC is just another volunteer who gives up his time as he can, and we do have to respect that.

I'm somewhat disappointed with some of the progress on things like clan wars and bug fixes, and I'd like some time to be allocated to them, but I also still love playing on the servers, and want to see people stick around. On the whole, PR is still a highly developed mod, which has come an incredibly long way considering the nature of its development.

I'm sticking around because I still love playing here, and I love the community which has grown around the games. I do want more time towards PR, but I'm happy playing here.

I agree HI gets more attention now because it's new, but updates are still being pushed for PR, HC just pushed an update to fix the scramble system.

And yes being dissapointed is one thing but calling us liers like Angel does is something else.

Like I said we are all volunteers and we just wanna have fun, it's not that our donors have customer status and can order us to fix certain things.

We've been doing this for years now and most people seem happy, you just can't make everybody happy.

Lol... I dont even come to see the forums anymore due to utter disregard and ignorance we people got in return of being a loyal member of this community. But in a way, Old must give way to the New.

Well Jones, despite our past issues, you were one of my favorite players to play with. A great leader when you led GOD, and an even better one with EOP.

I guess I, myself, left a long time ago, but not really. I still join vs every now and then when I see my friends on. But that's becoming less and less frequent because less and less of my friends are on now. Many people are leaving, they just arent announcing it, but it's clear that MG has lost a lot of players. I don't know what the reason is, so I can't speak for them. But I know that Jones complaints are the same complaints that many people are making. And the biggest one of them all is the lack of guild wars. Guilds started back in October of 2011. It is now March 2014. I understand that this is just you guys' hobby but still, guild wars is a 2 and half year old promise that still hasnt been kept. Meanwhile, we've gotten things we never even asked for like level updates, random new buffs, hidden infected, etc. Don't get me wrong, I and many others are very thankful for these things, but what about guild wars? We have like 50 different guilds in PR for what? Why do we even have guilds anymore? I know I used to be a huge donor to these servers in the past because I thought this place was worth supporting. After the king situation, I quickly learned that this isnt a community that cares about its players. Erik always says this isnt a democracy, this is a dictatorship, and he's right. So why support this place? Why purchase things from the store which mainly benefit the VS players, when VS is usually empty? Why buy boosters, guild stones, para buffs, goggles, and mutation shields? Seems like it would be a waste of money. But I digress...

    It's been fun Jones.

I think I'll toss in a quarter here.

Like Marvel said, when you donate and play, you help support the servers and keep them online. Nowhere during the ordering process does it say that updates and patches are guaranteed to be done.

We all volunteered to help out where we can, just like I did stuff for PR-VS. (Now with 300% more trees!) It just depends on when and where there is free time to do something.

Clan Wars. I don't know much about it since I didn't play it, but according to Jones saying it wasn't a success, there are many factors that can come into play, such as the balances of buffs and perks could have been under or over powered, or maybe the whole idea of it sounded good at first but once tried, maybe it didn't go as thought. There wasn't any promises or guarantees to it if you donated.

You should see how many game projects I have done in Game Maker and never completed. I had good ideas, but once started on them, found them not to be as good as I thought, and tried something new.

One day, HonorCode might take a glance back at Clan Wars and try it again, but for now, Hidden Infected seems to be a good idea, and it was executed very well. :)

Yeah, an important fact to remember about MG is that there's no dedicated development team, just talented guys who volunteer the spare time they have to help out and work things out.

Of course I'd like to see more investment in PR, but I appreciate the constraints applied by things such as it being a volunteer job. I like playing, and will continue to do so. In the end, what makes MG is the community, and I'm happy with that.

My opinion in this to be fair, yes when we donate it does not specify what will be done. Main things is to keep servers online(?)

Admins do this as their hobby or interest in their spare time, nothing wrong about that. but when it involves others, you guys got to understand that we, as other players expect things and in game, we expect fun and proper systems. i mean there is no point where people host servers to play on and then make it un-enjoyable and un-playable, i'd rather the hosts don't. (not saying that mg is like that)

As for the scramble system it took pretty long to fix and it still screws up now, better than last time but it gets annoying after a period.

Another thing is that when something major like Clan wars that admins want to implement into the servers, Getting players to test it out and getting everyone excited, it should be completed and not dragged for so long, don't do things halfway and leave players hanging on with hope after such a long time, either get it done or say it's not going to be possible to do it if it's too difficult to implement. I'm not an old player of MG but as far as i've known it has been 3 years.

And once again, this is entirely my own opinion, i'm not speaking for others or trying to blame anyone.

In a business, site or online community whatever. At the moment are willing to create and maintain something for a particular audience you will be charged, praised and often criticized and automatically is committed to try to satisfy largest possible number of users even those who are not assiduous donors, so if you want your "business" will continue to grow or at least stay alive.

remember that without loyal users, no matter how high you has come. you will fall.

I scrolled on back and can't see any place where this was called a business. Marvel simply stated that MG is a hobby done for fun, and things are done when there is free time to actually do it.
