This gives a few more details about uninstalling Flash. Apparently uninstalling it from the Control Panel does not remove the data in your hidden windows files and other locations. Because of this, simply uninstalling and reinstalling does not work.

I think that help article MAY have solved my issue. What happens now is when I enter the server the regular Left4Dead 2 screen shows up. There's no server message or video (yes, I am joining either the EU or US servers) and once I click ok the game proceeds like usual.

Two caveats to this is 1. I've only seen the join screen maybe twice as everytime I tried entering last night I went straignt into the game. 2. It seems odd that I wouldn't see a server message at all or the video itself. Maybe it was disabled entirely or something.

Either way, give this a try and see if it helps anyone else out. I would like to know if this worked.

Seems a little odd that so many people are having this problem at the same time; I was on earlier and a few people noted that they had experienced issues like these. It may have happened to me too, only the once though so I didn't think much of it.
Was there some recent update to flash or IE recently that may have caused all this (it's always nice to have something to blame issues on :P )

It did seem to fix the issue, but it's not really a fix more of an inconvenient workaround. Uninstalling flash removes it from all of my browsers. I have to remember to reinstall it every time I stop playing (I play a game or two several times a day) so that when my kids have a turn with the pc they can watch their videos or go to learning websites to play flash games.

Is there an option to prevent seeing ads? Do donors NOT see ads?

Uninstall flash for just internet explorer. Google will aid in this endeavor :)

    Possible fix.

If you go into the Steam settings and under Beta Participation, you select Steam Beta Update, then this issue will no longer be present at all.

You can always opt out of beta later on :)

I don't know what happened but I can't play more than one campaign at a time now on any MG server. It's really frustrating. None of the suggested changes work and I've tried them all. It would be nice to have someone from MG look into it and let us know that it is being looked into. Maybe it is and I'm just on the wrong thread but it has been a couple weeks now.

The solution that worked for me is quoted below. Uninstall Flash only for Internet Explorer; keep Flash for all of your other browsers.

I crashed for the first time today (just after the flash video shows up). Rejoined multiple times, didn't help. I've seen lots of people joining today just to time out a few seconds later, so it seems more and more people are affected by this.

For now I've changed my hosts file so that the ad server points to localhost. I know that's part of how you pay for the servers (don't worry, I'm a donor too :P), but for now that's the only solution (I need the Flash Plugin in IE, even if it isn't my primary browser).
This is the entry I added:
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 motd.pinion.gg
Rather than explaining how to do this, I'll just point to this URL: http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-7-hosts-file/

Don't use this just to block the ad because it's annoying. That's not nice. :smiley-angry027:

Yes, this indeed works, and seems to disable the ads.. Good fix for players who are crashing each time they join the game.

  15. Oh, thank god it's not just me. :O When loading before I even get to the MOTD, I see the IE "busy" blue ring and I know it's borked. I do a ctrl+shift+esc to get back to my desktop and some sort of Flash debug window opens, mostly with this, sometimes a one line error. It vanishes if you close L4D2 though:

ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property rotationZ on flash.text.TextField.

It is being looked into. I personally, have tried over 2000 times to edit the motd.res file and make this work. Then I found out that the motd.res file does absolutely nothing to the motd. The motd overlay is controlled somewhere else but alas, there are 100+ res files that do a variety of things and finding the one that controls the motd is difficult.

For others that are wondering, the motd is rendered using Internet Explorer's scripting, this is why Luke insists you uninstall Internet Explorer's flash capabilities. If you don't want to do that, then downgrade flash versions and see if it works then.

If you want to get technical, my default browser is set to Opera and the version number of my Internet Explorer is 9.0.8, I have no issues running the game or the ad. My flash version number is 11.3.300.268, my OS is Windows Vista 64-bit. My graphics card is an overclocked Nvidia GeForce 9500GT running with DirectX version 11. The driver version for my card is 301.42... and I like my tea with 2 spoons of sugar.
