watch as spectate till slot is open

hello guys,
can it be made possible for people to connect to a game as spectator so they can wait for a slot to be open.
i usualy have to wait alot before i can connect to a server, mostly Coop EU. it makes waiting alot more 'fun'.
ofcourse you need to disable chat and mic for people spectating so they cant give information about SI to Survivors.
and set the spectator slots to 1-2 slots.

can it be made possible ?

 

In general servers are rented by the number of player slots. A spectator slot would cost the server owner money. As nice as it would be to have one it would be a waste of money imo.

I speak in general terms. MG might have a different agreement with its hosts....

As an alternative you can open the auto join box, and choose to join as soon as a player spot is available. Leave the box open and join another game. It will switch you as soon as it can automatically

 

Really? I thought it wasn't like that .. This is my interpretation of how it works .. You pick a server depending on it's spec, location, price etc and then you can do whatever you want with it .. I'm sure there can be more slots added without paying anything extra but the problem might be the lag because the more people you have on the server, higher the pings will be which will cause lag .. This is how i believe it works but i can't say it's correct though ..

I am sure the location/ping/other stuff is included in the server choice too.

 

no no no we dont pay per server slot we rented/own the whole servers our own(marvel owns them)

But Valve doesn't support more then a 20+ player server(8 actualy for versus and 4 for coop). so unfortunately its not possible to add more slots to the server.

also for COOP the max = 16

 

There is a server that is 22 players, but it's still 10vs10 and the other 2 slots are for admins only.

I really hate this because you can't put the server on auto-join, because you just join it and get kicked. :/

I used to play on l4d around a year ago or so and there used to be 24 slots server but the problem with that server was, whenever an admin would want to join the server, you would see a message on the screen:

An admin wants to join so the last person connected to the server will get kicked ..

After waiting for so long to join the server and when you did, you would get kicked which sucked ..

 

that admin could also make a 25slot with 1 spectate and reserve it only for him. that way no one gets kicked.

but if you spectate how can that create lag ? ofcourse youll take op some of the servers connection, but not much because the only thing you can do is float around a bit, might slow down the server for 1sec if you join of leave but still thats barely noticeable.

 

It's a good idea, I know the frustration of waiting around for 10/20 minutes for a slot to open. Problem is, you would then end up with 5 players waiting around trying to snipe any places. More recently now, I just tend to join one of the half full servers instead, if I can't get a slot, helps keep all the servers populated that way.

 

It could create a lag for others if im spectating and my ping is 3000 (which actually was the case yesterday), maybe not a major lag but it will increase others ping too slightly so if 3 or 4 people are on spec and they all have kinda high ping, not 3000 but even 400+ then it will make a difference.

 

also would be unfair on map change. that somebody who been playing an hour gets put into Spec because he loads slower then the spectators

 

Ive always just done what bls said, use the "automatically join when a player slot becomes available" option, leave the window open and join another server...that way when a slot becomes available you just switch over instantly....only problem with that i find is that sometimes you start getting into the game on the other server you chose to wait in, forget you left the "join automatically" box open and BAM your on the loading screen for the other server lol...still beats staring at the browser waiting for a slot to open though.

 

lol I can't count how many times that happened to me Dav. But like u said, it's much better than watching the server browser.
