Future of TrueSkill + PR/VI

I talked to MJ, and I found out why you guys don't want trueskill yet. It's actually somewhat of a misconception. The TrueSkill upgrades and skills aren't your regular upgrades/skills. They're a bit different. Let me give you an example--

Deep Tread - allows players to swim slowly in deep water for up to 20 seconds before drowning to death - Trueskill 45 or higher - Cost: 44,000 Points
Let's say TJ were to buy this Skill. He would go to !cp -> Enhancements -> TrueSkill -> Skills and click on Deep Tread. A menu opens up, and he would purchase Deep Tread for 44000 points. You can do this in ANY level. TrueSkill based upgrades/skills aren't level-dependent. Even a lvl 1 could buy this skill. Now, TJ will need to work on improving his TrueSkill to at least 45 (let me tell you, TJ and MMJ are both definitely 50's, their teamwork is superb, and their really skilled [w/ TrueSkill] and experienced [w/ high levels] at the same time). Since TJ is already at a high skill, the skill will take effect immediately. If he were ever to drop under 45, the skill will simply stop working until he comes above 45 again.

Now another example. MMJ was angry about having to worry about yet another thing in PR. I just played with her, and damn, she's better than me. I managed to get a 50, and no doubt she will too. Everybody starts off at TrueSkill 1, and let's say MMJ in a few days attains the max skill of 50. She will open up the TrueSkill Upgrades menu and select Charger Steer which can only be used at TrueSkill 50. What Charger Steer does is give you the ability to move left or right while you're charging. She buys Charger Steer for 55,000 points and she has that upgrade for life. If her trueskill goes under 50 (which it won't-- she's better than me and I just got a skill of 50, so she'll definitely have a higher skill rating), then Charger Steer will simply stop working until that skill goes back up.

Makes sense? These upgrades don't depend on levels, but they simply depend on your trueskill.

I must say I am a little jilted that MMJ does not want to play with us but think she is really missing out on the opprotunity to play with such a colorful crowd that includes a porn director, a real life Ned Flanders, a space alien, a mother of 7, a hooker, several stoners, a Doctor, a British Sailor, a dark hooded figure and so many other colorful mutants, OK so she does not have that many kids but you get the point. Join us and have fun for a night or two, it will be like a welcome party.

 

Yeah EA wanted more $$ per sale so they made their own version of Steam called "Origin" and made Battlefield 3 only available in Origin's store. However, you can add Battlefield 3 to Steam as a "non-Steam game" I think. This thread shows how to join the mg server in BF3.

That might be the old IP address, just type mgftw in the search field for the servers and u will see MG's servers and then add them to ur favourites so u dont have to search them everytime.

I must say that I am a bit frustrated with TrueSkill today. I have played for over 5 hours today on EU VI. I started at lvl 43 and it kept saying must be at least 9 players on each team for TS to be calculated. I have been busting my ass all day against formidable opponents and we have been consistently winning but no change in skill. Finally we get 18 players and win 3x in a row by several hundred points and it says Your True Skill did not change. Then we lose a single map by 25 points and it says your true skill went down. This ticks me off, I rescued 17 survivors in 1 map alone and we win by a landslide but no change then we lose by 25 pts and I go down. When Luke is in the game it is different because he can over ride the number of needed players. I suggest reducing the number of needed players to 12-14 until there is consistently 18-20 players. Other than that I have been happy with the new system.

My trueskill didnt change either in that round from 1 .. not sure if it changes per round or per map tho

Vulcan, the admin command to bypass the player requirement is sm_tsforcetoggle.

The situation you described occurs when only your sigma value decreases but your mu doesn't change. You must have had a high skill team on one side versing a lot of skill 1's on the other side (that is usually when something like that happens).

 

I've noticed some people rage quitting right before the end so it becomes 9v8 or less and then trueskill doesn't calculate.

 

I might as well list the admin commands here:

sm_tsforcetoggle - Toggle player count requirement from 9v9 to doesn't matter and vice versa
sm_tsbalance - Balance teams based on their TrueSkill (last time I tried it, the result was so effective and each team was equally balanced)
sm_tsprintmyvalues - Prints your Mu, Sigma, raw skill from your mu & sigma, your calculated trueskill, and saved round scores (includes logical B score from prev round, modified at round 2 end)
sm_tsfindchange - find delta mu and delta sigma from any two logical team scores in any given order w/ results output as dMu_A, dSigma_A, dMu_B, dSigma_B

 

Just a few words of wisdom. I just learned the hard way not to do any stupid shitheaded fuckwad things like rushing ahead. This will hurt you big time. Hard Rain 2nd map Sugarmill, I got incapped and was a main so I figured I would crawl over the edge skipping the elevator. I revived but the tank got me again then a hunter that killed me. I went from 43 to 21 in 1 map. Do not do this. It is better to get your ass kicked and killed with the team than to rush ahead like an idiot. I was an idiot and deserve what I got but dammit anyway. Perhaps compounding the problem was that I did not realise that not only were there people far back but they were way back by the 1st saferoom. I was not a team player. I never thought for a second that there were players that far back and because of that I lost in 10 minutes what took me days to acheive.
