Yesterday I did something stupid. I was playing Myst V and decided I wanted to max out my graphics settings and I set the resolution over the max recommended setting and it said to restart the game, Now when I open the game I get a black screen that says "input not supported" I tried uninstalling and re-installing the game but that does not work. I fixed the same problem with another game a few years ago by plugging my old CRT monitor back up but don't have it anymore. I wrote to Steam support for help but they have not replied.

Start the game with the -autoconfig command line parameter (aka Steam Library > right-click Myst V > Properties > Set Launch Options).

Edit: Jav beat me to it :P

This did not work. I tried both autoconfig and -autoconfig

I uninstalled Steam and re-installed it. Now I have to re-install all 41 games. I set the launch options to -autoconfig before installing the game and get the same thing. Is it -autoconfig or autoconfig. Can anyone else figure out how to help?

    Code:
    -autoconfig
should reset your video settings temporary and launch the game in windowed mode with minium resolution.

    BTW

You dont have to reinstall all your Games, if you dont have delete the whole folder.
Just delete the Client and reinstall it.

You could try the following launch options to set your resolution manually (if for some reason -autoconfig is not working):
    Code:
    [COLOR=#111111][FONT=Arial]-width 1024 -height 768[/FONT][/COLOR]

Or you could not uninstall anything and just delete the configuration file :P

It should be in your user documents folder somewhere, just go to your documents and look for Myst V End of Ages\init\graphics.ini
Delete it and Myst will hopefully revert to its default resolution.

1 Message by you on Thu, 11th Oct 2012 2:43 pm Absolutely unbeleivable piss poor customer service. I have almost 6000 hours of logged play time in L4D2 alone and all you can give me is some bovine scatology of some 3rd party horse hockey. Steam has provided me absolutely ZERO help. Fortunately my freinds in Marvelous Gaming told me all I had to do was delete a file. Just as simple as that and it worked. Delete the graphics file. Just why is it that the experts at Steam could not tell me to do this. It just staggers my imagination to see that you could not solve this problem for me and all it took to solve my problem was to post it in the Marvelous Gaming forum and wham, bingo there it is. Don't get me wrong, I love Steam and will continue to log more hours than any other player ever in recorded history but who ever fielded my question needs to go back to getting coffee for the rest of you.

3 Message by you on Wed, 17th Oct 2012 9:24 pm I do apologize for being irate and beligerent but I do not see how this does not fall under technical support. Let me re hash what happened. I was playing Myst V and I adjusted my screen resolution too high and got an black screen saying "Input not supported." My monitor can't handle a resolution that high. All I needed was a way to lower my resolution without entering the game. This is definately a Steam Technical Support issue because the game should have never let me do it in the first place. I have no other game that will allow me to over-max my settings. The frustrating part is that in the end the solution was incredibly simple and in my opinion anyone working for Steam and actually getting paid to fix simple problems should have known how to fix it in 1/10th of a second. All I had to do was delete one single file from my documents and restart the game. Fortunately my friends in the Marvelous Gaming community found this simple solution, I wish your technical support team and I were as brilliant as they are.

    Maybe try?

Weejocky once mentioned a display setting called Borderless Window Mode (may have some words transposed.) For multi-tasking purposes or simply solving generic display errors, that turned out to be a big help to me.

(This is just in regard to #1 in your latest reply.)
