NEW Gameplay Idea

    Side Quests
    Ok so up till now the l4d has been a case of get from A to B reasonable quickly
    but what if you could not get into the Safe room when you got there because
    NO ONE has the key and you dont know where it is.

    The key could be in 1 of 3 different locations on the map and you have to find it.
    As an optional thing and for the sake of Co-Op playing the key dont spawn unless
    51% of the team are at the correct location at the same time. Then when you have
    it, then you can go to saferoom.

    To my mind, the good thing about this is that it not only adds a extra challenge to
    the game but it pretty much stops rushing from safe to safe, yeah ok it wont stop
    farming but ya cant have every thing :p

    but what if you only start the map with 2-3 clips and if ammo was addad as a side
    quest as well and the ammo pile moved after it has been used (by all players), I
    put that badly but I think you understand.

    I like it. But what can the Side Quests be? I was thinking more along the lines of 'Kill 6 survivors and earn fire bullets' etc.

    Legend: Kill 6 survivors and earn fire bullets? Only survivors can use bullets, so why would they kill each other? lol

    Having the key spawn somewhere and having to bring it to the safe room is quite a good idea actually.
    It'll get us off the main track and make us look around a bit (like on hard rain maps, in the houses and such... now that's a challenge!). But how to define where the key will spawn ?
    I doubt we can just randomly spawn it somewhere, locations must be predefined, and a random function set to choose of these places... so there will have to be a system similar to the witch spawn (that spawns witches at various places of the map), only it will be an object that we need to pick up (and hold? add an extra challenge to protect the keyholder) and bring to the safe room door, to enter.

    I really like this idea, and I'd like to add the keyholder being a main target for zombies and SI (like he was biled or something) so we have to work as a team to get this "VIP" to the safe room.

    I also really like this idea. I think it would help with all the rushing in COOP. But I have one possible problem. There are parts on the map (like elevator in Hard Rain) that once you go down, there is no way to get back up. If everyone goes down thinking the key was in the field and it wasnt, what is the solution? Because then they are just stuck.

    But other than that, I really like the idea, and think it should be used :)

    Well ok, so the Servs do down in the Elevator not finding the key and cant get back up to search then
    what could happen is this.
    The key could come in two parts, like PinCode and KeyCard, the KeyCard would be in the second section
    & they both have to be found to be able to SAFELY open the SafeRoom door. If only the KeyCard is used
    with out the PassCode then this will trigger a Medium Large Horde and Tank. So, if both are used then
    no Horde and Tank but there is a delay of 90 seconds before the door is opened so the Horde and Tank
    must be fought.

    I can't remember which servers it was on, but some L4D1 servers had a key mod, where only a certain person could open the saferoom. If that person died, it jumped to another one.
    Whoever tried to rush and open the saferoom eventually died, which is a good idea. Certainly made the players stick together. Was a fail if the rusher had the key, of course ;)

    I remember this plugin being used on the l4d2 servers at one point (was it in february?). I can't recall which thread it was discussed in, but it wasn't the best idea:
    It doesn't stop rushing... 4 people can easily rush to the safe room and camp there (rushing + farming)
    What if the main rusher was the key holder?

    I really like left4pie's idea of randomly spawning a key that survivors would have to search for. It makes COOP more interesting, more challenging and especially more fun.

    Just make it a 1% chance that a toaster will spawn in some of those side rooms or buildings and players will scour the map from top to bottom. XD
     
  10. Really nice.. but "As an optional thing and for the sake of Co-Op playing the key dont spawn unless 51% of the team are at the correct location at the same time." doesn't seem ok to me. It should spawn, but you would only be able to get when this % is close to it (maybe this is the ideia u got, it's not very clear though...)

    i understand it very well.. if you play RPG like warcraft and sacred.. when you startoff in tutorial mode.. you always have a side quest to do inorder to teach you the commands' button.

    and in games like company of heroes... you always have to do a sidequest before you can move on to the main mission..

    Suggestion:
    l4d1 players will remember the campaign call "Crash Course"

    By bugs, the survivors in the 1st or 2nd round usually spawn in groups of 2.. the group thats ahead in the map usually wait for the group at the starting point to reach them and then all move together to get to saferoom..

    so im hoping maybe MG can replicate that in l4d2, except this time its not a bug.. its the way its suppose to be play.. and add an invisible barrier so that the group that is ahead wont try to abandon the other group thats way behind.. the barrier releases after atleast one of the players from the groups at the back manage to join the groups infront..

    so thats basically it.. can be improvise further.. but i wanna see further input from other players before i add in more..

    well this was just an after thought but it was intended to keep the players together, the problem with this
    is that the players would have to know this and that would be a problem with new players so I think its
    not a workable idea when I think about it with after thought.

    Just to clear up what I meant though, is that 51% or most of the players would need to be in the same
    immediate area, like if the keys are in a big building then the players would need to be with in 1-2 floors
    of each other for the key to spawn, but as I said it was a after though and not a workable one. Although
    it could be changed to "so long as all the players are out of the first safe room and no where near the
    end safe room the key will spawn".

    Thinking of this gave me this though about a new mutation for the spitter/boomer. They have mutated to
    grow different glands in the back of there mouths and in place of bile or spit they could project a chemical
    called 'White Phosphorous' which when exposed to oxygen allows them to spit sticky fire or when they
    fire at the water they could project Potassium what causes a hydrogen gas and a lot of heat so that you
    get a grenade like effect.

    Agreed. I like the ideas of something "different" added to the game. Clearly we would have to work out the details. Like with the Hard Rain elevator map...if the key is stationary for a certain period of time that it would respawn and the respawn couldn't be behind the survivors. That way they wouldn't be "stuck" down in the field.

    but maybe not the one you mean if you meant Cookie Monster aka Cookie_Cutter

    Possibly use the same logic to spawn the key like spawning a witch?
