Need help testing True Skill

    Hi guys,

It's time to test out True Skill in PRev. Now to do that, I need to set up some real games and I need 12 people to help one evening (not sure when).

    So what is True Skill?
If you've ever played Halo 3, you'll know what True Skill is. It's a measure of your skill as meant to be. Of course there are levels in PRev, but they aren't used as skill indicators unlike PR. If I'm not mistaken, PR uses levels for everything. The problem with that is levels only indicate experience, not skill. Experience and skill are not always directly proportional as a function of time. True Skill adds a whole new aspect to gameplay. You're competing against the other team to up your highest skill, not just to win for fun. If you suck, your skill goes down, and if you're good, your skill goes up. Skill is measured in a range of 1-50. Levels are used as experience indicators.

The new skills and upgrades coming out in PR now integrate both Experience and True Skill. For example, the new skill Survivor Tank Bash; the skill allows survivors to charge up a super melee bash that will send all special infected (including the tank) flying into space.

While this is really cool, it's completely unfair in a competitive environment. However, if the player is really that skilled to use it, and he plays really really well that round, yes, he'll be able to use it once. The mod awards skill, not the amount of time you play.

    How does this change gameplay?

You can only earn true skill on Ranked servers. Ranked servers are all Player vs Player. Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill etc. The reason for this is simple: teams need to be balanced for accurate true skill measurement.

    • Teams are nearly perfectly balanced based on player skill
    • Object of the mod now becomes to attain a skill of 50 and maintain it while keeping up with the rest of the game including upgrades and skills.
    • Experience and trueskill is factored into everything new coming in the mod
    • L4d2 attains some meaning to online gameplay
    • Much, much more competitive now

Anyway, I don't want to talk all day about this. Google "True Skill". Who can help test? You better like CoD style games (all sound effects are from CoD).

    Thanks!

    [Topic moved.]

Great! Thanks. However, I changed my mind. I'm going to keep this a closed circle between the people who have already tested.

    Updates
Now here are some updates. To play on PRev, players must download a DLC pack. Toasters don't exist. To be honest, I can't imagine myself walking around and taking items out of a toaster. Instead, real items like jetpacks, UAV engines, switchboards, torches, etc are picked up. Gems are really gems-- they glow through walls for up to a thousand miles and are shaped like diamonds. Elemental shards are icy shard pieces. The mod adds new characters for the Ranked servers.

    Some notes for old testers
Note for old PRev testers: there have been some severe graphics revamps. I used to maintain compatibility for players who chose not to download the DLC, but not anymore.

There are completely new weapons like the Ice Sword (unlockable for 60000 points and usable at over level 100; must maintain skill over 40). The Airstrike killstreak literally has jets fly through the sky and drop molotovs which erupt deadly flames. The Volcano killstreak has a gigantic volcano pop out of the ground (no lava effects sorry) which sends out a shockwave killing all SI on the map.

The system includes the same Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes but this time with new character modifications.

Clan Wars has been removed. Hell Tank has been delayed due to some C++ engine-based problems.

    Todo

Todo: Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, etc will become integrated parts of l4d2_killhouse at the end of every campaign. Players can still form clans and such, and if multiple clan players join and the mod detects lots of clan players, a clan wars event is automatically generated and all players are teleported to either Helm's Deep Clan Wars or Hell Tank Arena or Clan Race (clan players must work together to race across a randomly chosen campaign level while slowing the other team down). I'm not going to spend time adding clan buffs and stuff. Instead, the clan's average TrueSkill is calculated. The best clans are ranked from top to bottom based on trueskill.
    --End of Todo--

    Compatibility

Anyway, PRev will be guaranteed to work on Windows. I'll try and maintain Mac compatibility. PRev will not work on no-steam.

    The Catch

PRev is very very competitive like Call of Duty with a lot of Coop action. Now here's the catch. I spent too many hours on this mod. I need a return on my investment because I'm a business oriented person.

    Here it is:
PRev Trial Run: PRev is completely free to play for as long as you want. But there are some exceptions:
    • Your level is capped at 70.
    • Your Web Profile (your online profile and rank) displays a "Free Player" stamp.
    • Your True Skill is capped at 40 max.
    • Only 60% of the upgrades are usable.
    • No access to the new weapons
    • Points cap at 50000.
    • First prestige cap.

The thing is, you can still go and play. To get to the level, skill, and points mentioned above, you'll need quite a bit of gameplay. You'll have plenty of time to experience the mod to the full extent before paying a monthly charge for it.

There is a $4.99/month charge to remove all limits.

Why? Because I can't imagine myself after spending 120+ hours on this not getting a penny back.

But don't fret. All users who are over level 150 in PR by the time of the full release will get 6 months free.

A note to all my previous beta testers

You guys get lifetime access for free. Thanks for helping me when PRev was in its infancy stage! All roots ofc get lifetime as well. Everyone else, including admins (unless you were a beta tester), will have to share the burden.

ETA: Before Fall 2012. I will periodically put up beta runs. This beta run has been pushed back.

Edit: Topic reopened. What do you guys think?

I don't want to upset anyone, but I can count with one hand who I consider a "beta tester".

Def: A beta tester for MG is defined as one who contributes a significant amount of time and dedication to test the mod when requested without expecting anything in return.

Everyone else is a tester, but not a "beta tester". The beta tester is the one who will get the first hand look at the mod as their time and dedication is continuously needed. Sorry if I disappointed anyone!
