Idea for L4D2 servers regarding donors.

    Hey is it possible that we could get some more features as a donor?
    Like an infected and survivors select buffs? That way we wouldn't have to swap for each !cp in each round? Also I was wondering about the ads, are these for all users or can donors get rid of these? And plus the option to enter the server when full.

    Hi,

    What kind of features do you think we should add? :) There are no donor-specific buffs, but there will be buffs you can get from the upcoming MG store. As for the ads, they help finance the servers, and it's set on a global scale. I don't think we would be able to disable them for a specific usergroup.

    I think he means automagically selected buffs when you play a certain character...
    survivor -> system automatically selects your survivor buffs
    hunter -> same
    etc -> etc

    Enter the server when full ain't so bad... something like 20 playable slots, but having a reserved spot or two for donors, so they don't end up waiting in the game's server browser on auto-rejoin. But in the end, they still wait... in-game's always better than outside tho xD.
    The reserved slot for donors is a pretty good idea since it gives more feeling of being privileged to the actual donors, aside from !csm and the joining speech.

    The fact that admins themselves don't have reserved spots should tell you something :)

    lol indeed, I have to wait 10 minutes myself last time I tried to join :) So no, reserved slots is not possible. You can do it but a donor will only join as spec then and still have to wait for someone to leave. Even that is fixable, you could create slot 19 and 20 reserved and have only 18 slots for non-donors but that is just too annoying because if you join slot 19 and 20 as non-donor you get kicked all the time and if no donors are around these slots will be left empty (wasted).

    So just use openserverbrowser on autoretry, that works fine for me :)

    About more features, we are trying to add some every time but remember that most sites will only give you votekick, ping and afk immunity. I think our donor system has a lot of features already.

    Don't you think that admins would get reserved spots if it was possible? :) But we have to wait just like everyone else.


    That's it?!?!?! Not fair!!! xD I sat in front of my PC for 25 minutes for PR USA 2 days ago to get in :)

    Well what I was referring to is that donors get in no matter what, more or less booting a non-donor off to make room for the donors a slot to get in. I was a donor with ZCC until their admin decided to vanish and their servers finally went down. And as donors we were given priority over other players. I guess it was a mod that allowed this to work.

    That approach is kind of unfair for non-donors :/.
    Can't imagine all the frustration people would pile up if they got booted just because a donor connected.

    Kind of like an admin booting someone so another could connect. It sounds very wrong, yet to my eyes, it's exactly the same thing.

    It's technically not possible with left 4 dead. On a lot of games you can boot the one with the highest ping or the one who joined last but not on L4D and if it even worked, I agree with Ice, it would be really unfair for non-donors and it would create a lot of frustration.

    Donors already have enough options, and most donors donate to support to keep the servers running, the options are just an extra for our donors to thank them for their support. If we would do stuff like reversed slots the next step would be to start selling admin accounts. Non-donors have just every right to play as donors do, so theirs no difference in that.

    What about a different glow? Is that possible? To make them really stand out.
    Technically I presume the chat color change and the donor join speech is to help them stand out, but say we're on COOP, everyone glows blue.

    If someone is a donor, I'd take it he enjoys MG servers and knows how to get around the rules and gameplay policies set on the servers, so I'd be able to spot straight away a trusted player. If this were possible, it'd enhance their recognition and boost up a bit their reliability... donors won't be able to hide no-more muahaha

    Changing donors glow seems like a nice idea. However, these wouldnt be possible on versus modes.

    The glow suggestion seems really nice!.
