Hey MG... Lets Build a Campaign!

Basically MG Community, YOU are all going to be making a campaign. I will map it, you will design it!

I'm stumped for ideas. I have 50% of a map completed, but it's only the last 50% of the map. I need ideas for the start of the map and the rest of the campaign.

What I need you to do is come up with ideas. They can be anything and everything. Maybe a forest links to the area, maybe a sewer, maybe a city. It's kind of a strange area that's already made, so I want you to be creative but realistic in what setting you choose.

Write down a thorough explanation of the area you are describing and if you can include images of a top down view with the paths to the current area, that would be great too.

So, here is the things you will need to do when the BSP is here for download.

1. Download the BSP file from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?g314z28bg1dmf9x
(Unzip the file into your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\maps folder).

2. Run the map via console using the following commands:
sv_lan 1 [Press Enter]
map l4d2_witch_hunt coop [Press Enter]
When the map loads click OK

This will load a lan game with the bots, it will say map is unplayable but you can click OK and explore the map.

3. Explore the map and figure out where you want to come from in order to get to the area in the map (this area is outside the start area up the ramp and is currently all dev textured). Take note of as many details as possible in the current map so the idea you have will blend in.

4. Write up a decent description of the area prior to my map, how the survivors got to that area (car, boat, heli crash?) etc. The crescendo will happen at the security office with the 2 doors you see when you spawn in the red light area.

5. If you draw a picture, you can include multiple paths that are randomized at the start of the map (like in Parish map 1 or the cemetery). Please make note somewhere that indicates that it's a multi path route. You can use any image program, paper or what ever you have, as long as it's clear. If I can't understand it, I will ask that you redo it properly or discard it to the trash.

You also need to make it clear where your map links to my map. I will probably create it from the start of my map and work my way backwards.

6. You can write about all the maps but focus on this one first, just think about ideas for the next maps and make it clear that the ideas are map 1, 2 or 3 etc. I hope to make 3, but it could go for longer if the ideas just keep coming.

7. Depending on how many ideas are posted for the current map, I may hold a vote that will determine what idea gets used. I will then post that area linked to my area.

I reserve the right to change details at any time during the construction of the map in order to achieve the best possible aesthetic feel and playability. I will hold true to your path layout though.

You will get to play the BSP after I have completed the start area that links to my current area.

NOTE: The map will not spawn zombies, weapons, or load a next map... you are playing an unfinished product for viewing purposes only.

I'll do a quick video tonight and post it up.

It will be made for coop first and then later on I will come back to it and do modifications to allow it to run better on versus mode. I've already noticed some areas where it would fail miserably in versus mode.

Thanks for working so hard on these projects of yours, CR. I know I am (and the community DEFINITELY) is screaming for some variety around here.

 

Thanks guys! Well, hopefully people are working on their own ideas but at this rate I might have to work out how it starts on my own.

If anyone is working on their own ideas, please let me know and I will wait until your ideas are posted. I know it takes a few days to flesh out a decent layout, but I can work with you on the details and we can get things started.

What sort of stuff would you like to see marvel? Remember, if you post any ideas I will include them specifically in the maps somewhere.


You can also write ideas and storylines for the next maps. I think all maps can be designed in the same sequence so they can blend better.

 

Not bumping as it's already at the top, but i'm wondering if anyone is working on any ideas? If noone want's to contribute anything to the first map, I will continue it alone and remain open to ideas for the next 2 maps.

PLEASE reply if you're planning to work on something, whether for this map or the next maps. If no replies by the weekend, I will get the thread removed and work on it by myself.

I'm writing the scene for this map if you wanna try it and i'm using google sketchup to make a video to show you what think would be cool and a chalenge to start the finale.

 

Sure. Been preoccupied with Chivalry and the new Hitman, but I might work on some of it this weekend.
