Giving points to other players

Discussion in '[L4D2] Points Reloaded' started by Bilbos_Dildos, Sep 19, 2011.

  1. Hey, I have loads of points and not much to spend them on so could a system be introduced where you can send the points you don't need to other players? That way the points go towards a good cause and then they have a use instead of just building up and not being used.

Also I had another idea which is where players can donate any left over points into an overall bank type thing and if enough points reach the desired grand total then Helms Deep is brought back. Then also there could be other goals to reach to unlock maybe custom campaigns or other new stuff.

Let me know what you think :)

Well, let me make this clear once again. There are problems with HD! We did not take it down for fun! They will be fixed, but hc Is working on the guild system.

Chocobo answered the second part and i'll answer the first part for you .. Giving points to others is not a good idea because all of the high level players can give their points to mid level players and they won't have to work for them which is totally nonsense. High levels had to earn those points either by playing or buying from the store so why take the 'fun' of earning things yourself? Also, rich kid package people have loadss of points and they can ask roots to add more for them anytime they want so imagine if they started giving 100,000s of points to people then everyone would upgrade things without putting any effort into it. Next people may start saying the same thing about the stones or even gems so like i said above, i don't think it is a good idea..

  4. That's a fair point but surely being a low level and struggling through and not being able to buy upgrades/skills is no more fun? If we're talking about taking fun away, then mentioning the rich kid package is a redundent point. As the Rich kid package takes away the whole point of playing altogether as it gives the player everything and there is nothing else to work towards. Its like if Leonardo Da Vinci paid someone $400 to paint the Mona Lisa for him. Where's the sense of accomplishment or pride in working towards the final piece?

@Chocobo the only problem I see with Helms deep is that its not up and running =P

Is not fair to new players who don't have highlevel friends who have loads of points.
And the most important thing is it hurts the store, and the income needed to maintain our servers.

    Off topic:
PRev has both a backpack item and point gifting system. It had a level gifting system at one point and I thought that was ridiculous so I removed it.

Anyway, PRev was built with store support from the ground up. There are so many numerous opportunities for store products that a point gifting system really won't impact the store on PRev as much as it would on PR.

That brings me to my next point: I need some ideas for store products :P

The problem with giving points on PR is that its is based on: the higher level you are, the more points you earn (because your stronger), while the upgrades cost more.

If you let highlevel players give points to lowlevels they can buy virtually every lowlevel upgrade.
because upgrades costs less for lowlevels, and are more difficult to get.

Hehe, that's true for PR, PRev wants players to upgrade because the fun in that mod is True Skill. Hence the reason why all Lvl 1 upgrades are free (0 points) so players can get an idea of what upgrades exist.

Yeah the richkid package was intended as a joke because I thought nobody would buy it anyway. But some people did :)

an equivelent would be to point out red toasters to low lvl guys. it seemed as i was leveling there was no massive pressure about points, i almost always had enough to upgrade when lvl was gained, but there were nice guys pointing out red toasters.
