Farming

Hello i have a few questions concerning farming.

I don't really understand why it is such a big deal and why the punishments that come with it are so harsh. I mean i can see why its a problem on a server with many players and people want to finish the map. That i can understand. If your on your own on a server and no one else is playing then i think farming is fine. I mean what chance have you got of finishing the map with just you and the "ow so clever" bots? Not really a hope in hell. Also some of the challenges i think encourage farming and require farming to be achieved. Inferno for example. You need to burn 200 common infected. Good luck doing that on a populated server with people rushing through the level and votekicking you for trying to complete the challenge due to their low patience.

Now i'm not trying to start a massive debate/argument here as this is just my opinion. I think there are more serious matters that require harsh punishments. People using aimbots, hackers etc etc I don't think farming should carry such a heavy penalty.

 

Because this server is based on player statistics. Farming points by yourself is an unsporty behavior. Farming while others are waiting is even worse, for the matter of fact.

The way I see it, this game is meant for us to play to survive. Not kill every zombie out there. Get from one safe room to another, and get rescued.

It's pretty obvious of one person is alone on a server, with 800 kills on one map, the guy's farming zombies for stats, and it's not fair for those who played right to get in the rankings. And, last I looked, not playing fair was a bad thing.

 

I agree, if others are waiting farming shouldn't happen as it deprives them of playing however i think if your on your own and you don't stand a chance of getting to the other saferoom you may aswell farm. You're not cheating as you're still killing the zombies via the normal methods. Also i think any game with an EXP system people tend to farm on to progress quicker.

Yes the game is about surviving but to do that well you need to be a high level to survive but to get that you need to level which you can't do when you rush. Also you probably won't survive the finale as you will be killed by the tank or special infected and left for dead because you run slower than the high leveled people or players leave you to get a toaster. So to get to a higher level so you survive longer and have more fun you do what you do on all games with an RPG element, you farm it.

Going back to the challenges, like i said some of them pratically require farming to complete. I'm against farming in large groups of course and i respect the rules of the server. You mention its not fair on the players who played "right" to get into the rankings but they're still going through the same progress as other players, just at a faster rate as they don't have to compete for kills. They're not hacking to change their statictics or using aimbots etc. Talking of stats, doesn't your deaths get added to your stats? If you go out of the saferoom you're just gonna add to your death total. I would rather have a higher kill stat than my death stat. Also what about if you're waiting for more people and the bots decide to open the door then you have to fight back because you close the door and then the bots open it again and go out and die then you have 100 common infected and 20 SI waiting when people join and you open the door.


Talking of fairness, is it anymore fair that when the tank dies the fire he leaves incaps low leveled people whilst the high leveled people run in and get all the toasters as they're immune to fire? Is it fair that you can go through a whole campaign and achieve very little exp due to rushers leaving people behind and getting all the best toasters and an overall lack of team work?

 

Other higher levels had to go through the lower levels too. Not only you. And mostly they do it with fairplay.

And the whole meaning of the exp-system is that you reward people who play more and give them an edge
thats why they play.

If you don't like that, play vicious, mixmode or beserker were everybody is equal. (they have stats too)
So if you don't like the EXP system, don't play there! simple as that.

If you think your not levelling up fast enough here some tips:

1. Go play coop, you can gain points faster here because the infected are bots (and therefor way less powerfull)

2. Buy de doublexp package, you level up twice as fast

 

Why have all the valid points I made been brushed under the rug and left unanswered? Again, the challenges pratically beg you to farm.

Yes of course i know that other players start off at a low level aswell but this whole concept of "fairplay" still eludes me. Farming is still "fairplay" its just players who took the inishative to gain alot more exp without other players to gain it also. Whats the point of going outside and being swamped by SI and adding to your death stat when you can stay in the saferoom and level up?

Yes with more EXP comes more of an edge. So why not save a few game hours and level up faster by killing zombies from the safety of the saferoom? If its only you and two others then you may aswell farm.

I never said anything about not liking PR and i do enjoy it but i think the punishments handed out for farming are over the top. I think the reason farming isn't liked is because then people have no need to buy the double exp package. Which no offence is a waste of money as it only lasts for a month. I could just farm and pick up a 5X exp toaster for free. The points reloaded EXP package that adds 50K exp for $5, just farm and make that in no time. As stated i believe that farming is disliked as it draws attention away from your store.

your argument is totally invalid and plain ignorance against the whole pupose of having a l4d mod call Points Reloaded.

if everyone is farming, there is no reason to create new abilities or achievements for players as they all level up too quickly and there is the tendency it will just be another l4d mod like vicious and berserker whereby every1 is on par with each other in terms of abilities. unless you suck in playing l4d, then of course with all the abilties in the world you still die fast and lose in the game.

why farming is not allow is because l4d and especially in this PR mod, its a game that requires you to complete a chapter and move on to the next, and not stay in one chapter endlessly for hours without completing it.

and by farming, you are gaining levels quicker than other players who plays it in a fair manner to level up like for example ME.

the reason why you are complaining is because your low level, so be a man and just go through like what other higher level had to do to be where they are right now in the game.

if you cant stand it, then heed Joerve advise, play in other mod then.
if you have the balls, then just play it like it suppose to be.

and by the way, this mod was not created JUST FOR YOU, its MG's mod so its MG's rule and not blade101's mod so follow blade101's rule. so why should we be listening to your ranting for a lower punishment for farming. If you dont like our rules, then go create your own farming mod.

and to answer your question, yes there will be empty servers with just 1 player playing alone, but if the player plays the game like whats its suppose to be which is to complete the chapter, then it is not farming. but if the player just plays as infected and never as survivor, its farming. if the player just stay at one area and never move on, its also farming. so do you get it BLADE101.

and also, if you dont like playing alone, then join our other server which is not full or just wait for an empty slot to be open as there will always be player who will leave the game or votekick for some reason..lol

I'm just making a point and you bring my balls into question. Charming. I know its not made just for me, jeez. No my argument is not invalid and ignorant, It has some good points to it i feel.

just a general question at farming :
is it farming if all eu points reloaded server are empty and a player is on one of them and try to make the map ( coop for example), when he try to kill tanks at final and get resucued.
i understand that it is farming if u stay at saferoom and kill hordes of zombies from there, but if u try to finish the map and wait while that for other player is that farming?

 

if your completing the chapter, its not farming.

but if you just play infected everytime or no intention to complete the chapter, its farming.

 

its not farming when you deviate from your route a little while to complete your challenge, or you stay at one point 10 sec longer then normal to kill some zombies . It is farming when for no reason at all you travel way back with putting your life and the rest in danger or you don't end the level just to gather points.

I don't get why it is so hard to understand that. It is so simple.

 

No I think what Blade's trying to say is that he doesn't get why we have such a heavy ban on farming. Well I have a 2 sided answer...

We want you to have the best playable experience possible. Can this happen with farmers clocking up points at the back, slowing the whole team down - picture the lower levels going back to help the farmers only to turn back and get killed by a charger once they find out that you could self-revive. Now, that's what a I call a selfless team-killer. That's one side to the answer, the fact that you are indecisively harming your team's time, health and patience by farming. Furthermore, most new players who end up on Points Reloaded (especially on the USA versus) are totally and utterly new! They probably want to skip the regular versus in favour of our servers which I think is a compliment. If you view all new players that way then I think you will get rid of the 'term' noob from your vocab. Anyway, what impression do exploiting farmers set for totally new player? It's a disgrace. Another reason why the punishment is so high.

The other side to the story, which is kind of bashful and frank, is that we (or just Marvel) needs the money. "Haha" you might think, "you're just doing it for the money; your community is a waste!" But no! We need the money for you! Don't you see? The more players farm the less resources we put into maintaining the servers and the more we think about ditching Points Reloaded. Players farm = less for you. The basic aim of the game is to survive. That's it.

Now here's what I think will be useful in the future:

• An option to announce your current challenge to all players. There can be an option to not announce if you're feeling secretive.
• A Point Reloaded Challenge server would be good, where players vote for a challenge that all of you hope to achieve.
• Bump up the fire damage when the tank dies. Or insta-death is the best deterrent.

I'm gonna have to go with l1tehawk's past and bring up a statement where history repeats itself. Blade101 tell us why are you so retarded?

If your a decent player and play on the servers regularly i dont really understand why you'd want to farm in the first place.....ok it makes it a lot easier to level up faster but its cheap...wouldnt you get more satisfaction out knowing you leveled up the right way on your own?...i dont wanna demote this item in the store or anything but its the same reason i would never buy the 50,000 exp package....it would just feel a bit cheap to me buying my way up if you know what i mean :ohwell:

Also i think the punishment is fine, farming is such an easy thing to do we need a fairly harsh punishment showing people that it isnt allowed, if one was to just get a slap on the wrist all the time for farming it would encourage more people to do it (noobish people that want to fast track their way up without playing fair and gaining their levels like a decent normal player lol) I think im level 103 and it takes me years to level up now...especially when i cant play 150 hours a week like some of the other crazy regulars here lol but i do enjoy a challenge

 

All of those ideas sound great.

One of my happiest (L4D2) memories is of connecting to the MG servers is getting pwnd hard. And realising that I could level up and join the ranks of the pwners.

In the last month I have had a great time enjoying my double XP and donor pack benefits. If I wasn't pumping money into keeping the MG servers running, I probably would have been trying to get an AU points server running myself. But MG decided to start a Sydney server, and for that I am your #1 fan.
