This morning i had army interviews, as every 18 years old finnish citzen does (males). Why do i go to the army? Because they will throw me into jail if i dont lol..

Okay, so out of all military roles, i chosed military police (training) as it is only 9 months :P (Unless i become squad leader which makes it 12 months).

To the point, while im in there, i wont be able to play or use anything else than my phone as i dont have free times. So i can probly only check the forums once a while..

My "service" will start in february of 2013.

Anyways i'm not going anywhere for a while :P

Well, it's not in all of Europe, here in The Netherlands conscription has been abolished some time ago now as in many other countries.

And Europe and USA governements both suck btw ;)

That would be impossible as there are so many checks and paperwork, and they check's your citzen ID card and your passport.

Besides im not a guy who would even try such pathentic things lol :P

I know Germany has/had a "social/public service" type thing you can opt in to instead of the military. Finland have any option like this or did you just prefer MP?

I'm always suprised by the number of countries still using military conscription. I'm guessing this doesn't actually involve active service?

I think the UK only had limited conscription for the two WW.

Countries where people know what it's like to be a soldier are a hell of a lot less likely to have support for a war/deployment. The conscription usually doesn't involve real fighting. Feel free to correct me on anything, people who are actually from a country with conscription.

    Taking social/public service?

Yeah, i really do prefer MP over that lol.

Here in Israel we are obligated to join the army at the age of 18 for 3(!!!) mandatory years. Of course you can avoid it by acting crazy or simply standing up to your point of not wanting to do it hard enough (which may result is some military prison time but nothing too scary, couple of months at most).

I did my 3 years like a foolish little boy which I now regret cause it pretty much took the best 3 years of my life and gave nothing back but back then patriotism ran through my veins so I went ahead and did it.

At least I got training on almost every modern weapon this world has to offer ;) (including this which is the coolest thing in the world when mounted on a tank :D)

me too! call me ignorant but in all honesty i didnt realize military conscription was still active anywhere in Europe. UK had it during WW1 and limited conscription during WW2 but it was abolished some time in the ealry 60's i believe. Kinda sucks man i thought about joining the army for a while and still do from time to time but realistically im way too lazy and it'd leave little to no time for L4D and we cant have that now can we :peace:

Military service is a duty of each man in a country... but yeah luckily it got abolished in most. In France it got replaced with a 1 day initiation at 16 years old and instead of serving the army anymore, it's possible to do this duty by working for French companies abroad, in other words to help develop the economy and French industry in other countries...

It's definitely better than 1 or 2 years of army discipline... :P

We call it "Military service" here, but for those who decide to start college or university immediately after school ends, you can do it after you finish studying your career. Lats 2 years i believe.
