    Hello everyone,

As the title said, I am building a computer. I have a few parts picked out already, but I need tons more and would like your help choosing them. I want the computer to be used for gaming and school and who better to talk to about it than the pros (you guys). So I will post what I have now, and see what you think and what to add. Also, if you feel like any part I have chosen is not the best for my budget, please feel free to post a better one as well, especially for the parts that I have not chosen yet. Thanks to Raised for helping choose the parts I have now.

    TOTAL BUDGET: $500

    Parts Chosen:
    Parts in consideration:

One of these 3 Graphics Cards
Parts till needed to be chosen:
    • Motherboard
    • RAM
    • Hard Drive
    • Case
    • Power
    • CD/DVD drive/witer
    • Anything else I forgot about
EDIT: CHECK MY MOST RECENT POST FOR PARTS LIST

You already spend $400 of your budget and you still need all the other components? :D

Or is that $500 in addition to what you selected already?

Any reason you want Nvidia? ATI gives more power for your money.

His total budget is 500 so he will need a cheaper CPU/GPU. He doesn't need Windows, or any other hardware and he wants to use this desktop for his college work, gaming and Photoshop so anyone kind enough to write down the parts which would meet his $500 budget?

This is one of the options ..

    CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX455WFGMBOX

    Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+ 760G M-ATX

    RAM - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333MHz

GPU - Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 (Could go for 6850 to save $20 or so or 6790 for another $20)

HDD - WD Caviar Blue 500GB Sata III 6.0Gb/s

Optical Drive - ASUS SATA 24XDVD Burner

    PSU - Silverstone 500W 80PLUS

    Case - Rosewill Challenger Mid-Tower 2 x 120mm, 1 x 140mm fans

Fan Cooler - Could use the one which comes with the CPU but if he wants to overclock then he will need a better fan but a cheap option is (CORSAIR A70) .. This will go over the budget though

Sound - 7.1 sound card: Integrated on motherboard

Network - Ethernet RJ-45 10/100/ 1000 Mbps: Integrated on motherboard (Free)
    Rosewill 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB2.0 Wireless 2dBi Antenna ($10)
    Rosewill 802.11b/g/n 300Mbps Wireless USB2.0 5dBi Antenna ($20)

This will go above his budget (between $520-560) but if any1 can recommend a better or cheaper option for any of these parts to meet the budget then  OR you can come up with whole new parts of the PC.

you sure the 500W would be enough? would go for the 650W one :)

I could go above my budget that much Raised, 560 really won't be a problem at all if it is needed. I am just trying to keep it at 500.

Oh, and I pretty much am a complete noob when it comes to this, so I am just trusting what you guys are saying :P

Marvel: I believe raised choose that one, idk really about which one is better. I did some comparison tests between radeon and the one I have on here now, and this one was better (so the website said)

P.S. Oh, and if someone wants to donate one of these: http://tinyurl.com/3mjgn2o

That would be greatly appreciated :P

    I'm running an i5-750 @ stock, HD5850 + HDD&ODD on a 350W PSU..

Also, I don't think any game uses more than 2 cores... so that 990X is a waste and you'll be better off spending your (donated) money on CF/SLI

Crossfire and SLI setups require 2 graphic card, which you will benefit from if you play games @ high resolution and detail. Beware of heat/electricity bill..

    PSU = Power supply unit.

Raised did a good job picking out those components, and like marvel said; ATI Cards give you more bang for the buck in gaming, unless you want to use your graphic card for Cuda specific applications.

The reason he needs a decent CPU is coz he wants to run applications such as Photoshop. Photoshop will work on a dual core too but it would be better to have more cores than CF or SLI. I can run any game on max settings with my 1 gtx 560 ti OC. CF/SLI suite people who want a pc purely for gaming.

@ Chris, i'm currently using a 650W Corsair TX Ultra-Quiet but the reason i recommended 500 to him is because it will run fine for his pc and it will cost less but in a long run, higher PSU watt is definitely better but he can upgrades things in the future.

thats from a txt i saved iono if the links still work but yeah it should. Im sure by now the parts are alot cheaper now so yeah. also u can probaly get better more updated parts than i did cause i built this pc about 1-2 year ago. Also i suggest for the powersupply get a chordless one or one where u can put as much wires as u need because yeah lol i have alot of unwanted wires that just clutter up the case.

Do lots of research and don't forget about those combo deals. Took me about a week of juggling to get the best price but I got exactly what I want.
    What's in your current PC?
Are you trying to keep it?

AMD and ATI are less expensive than Intel ... plus check around prices between online retailer like amazon (might be free shipping), newegg and tigerdirect .... plus go with 600 + PSU (500 is ok)
an extra side/top fan would be nice..CPU fan you could find less expensive alternative

the stuff i named is around 350-375 dollars all together. so should be possible for him to buy :)

btw doesn't america have a website where you can see which store sells a hardware cheaper then other store's ?

    we have like http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/

very usefull website if you want to buy it at the cheapest store it is.

But mostly i go to the hardware warehouses them selfs. you can buy the stuff way cheaperthen in store's as these are placed where the store buys them from :)

Already have RAM that I purchased the other day, so that's all good :)

And I'm not really sure of any websites like that. I didn't even know about newegg until the other day.
