So, recently, (five minutes ago) I was playing on an MGFTW server, campaign with 1 other person. We were having fun going through the campaign and were actually doing really good, it was Dead Center btw.

    Then the finale came.
The finale. I went to go get a gas can from up on the high balcony parts of the dead center level and found a HUGE wave of zombies charging towards me from one doorway. Me being, well, me, ran straight at them with a melee weapon and killed them all. Looked straight back at the doorway and saw another horde, I shit you not, this happened five more times before i had gotten the first gas can. For one, the amount of zombies for only 2 people was an extreme amount. I dare say expert on a normal campaign server would be easier. Another thing, there were about 4 hunters all pouncing at me all at once. Then a wave of 4 spitters came after i killed those hunters. We died and restarted the finale, before we got our first gas can.

Our second try was slightly better. We got a few gas cans and then went to the higher levels of the map. On the highest level, I looked at one of the gas cans and saw a boomer, i went to shoot it, missed because i got hit by a zombie.
Then the boomer ran up to me and bitch slapped me, hitting me 50 metres away from where i was off the edge and i died. My team of 1 followed shortly after. I had already been pretty damn pissed at that point.

Then i found out this was on easy the whole time, and every time we died it said " OH COME ON! " or "You have to pull the trigger to shoot, by the way."

Basically, what i am saying is if the server has only 1-4 people on it:
    1. REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF ZOMBIES (HORDES OR THE AMOUNT IN THE HORDES)
    2. Make the amount of special infected less and not all the same, e.g. 1 smoker, 1 charger, 1 jockey and 1 spitter instead of 4 smokers.
    3. Make the unnecessary boomer bitch slap LESS POWERFUL. Honestly. There is no use for this other than to piss players off when they get pushed off the edge. (Unless it is in versus, only then is it necessary)

Thank you for reading, and if you agree, please press the agree button. I am sure this has bothered many others besides me and my friend.

  3. while i agree with eskimo, i feel the current setup is way too easy for 7+ people with high levels. its like a stroll in a park until the finale comes.

    Moved to PR General.

Wait untill Honorcode replies, as it is up to him to adjust PR settings.

Thanks for the valuable information though.

Normal difficulty isn't that hard - temporary spikes in zombie levels should be okay - hunters/spitters aren't as powerful on normal difficulty too.

The key to the Dead Center finale is be quick. The lack of special tanks and boosted SI on Normal/Easy should mean players can go through the levels as if they were slightly boosted L4D2, which imo is pretty easy.

I don't really think spawn levels need to be adjusted, but I'll see what happens.

Edit: Don't bitchslaps only knock you off your feet on Coop? I'm fairly sure they don't have the same power as VS bitchslaps...

We can always do adjustments. I was doing some stuff at the test server today (where i am level 1) and it was pretty hard to kill a smoker and a charger. We'll work it out. Still, it's really hard to find the correct settings for both high and low level players playing at the same time due to different factors like health (100 vs 275), fire power (30dmg vs 235dmg pistol) and other benefits given by buffs.

The curreny system we have is the following:

We have 3 different zombie configurations (low, mid, high) that regulate how strong the CI and SI are. This manages their abilities (bitch slap power, for example), basic settings like health, speed and damage and disables or enables different types of tanks.

Then, we have another 4 different configurations (easy, normal, hard, expert) that control the amount of zombies to spawn, their interval and their anger (with high anger they will react to players faster).

Also please note that on all difficulties, any panic event (when you hear mob noises) will trigger a lot of chaos and is intended this way to let players decide if it's going to be a walk on the park or something a bit more exciting (deciding by not shooting car alarms for example). So, in finales like Dead Center where the director constantly creates panic events it's most likely to be hard.

Dead center has always been a problem in the past because of how easy it was and in my opinion having a challenge makes things more exciting.

Co-op is fine just the way it is. I wouldn't change anything about it at all. You know a proper co-op campaign is meant for 4 players? You went as a 2 and ran off alone. You are also playing on a heavily modded server whererby levelling is ABSOLUTELY necessary to provide the upgrades you need to survive.

Like HC says, it would be really hard to balance this out. The purpose of our coop servers is to play it with 10 human players. We do make modifications to make it more easy with less players but that's hard.

It would be such an enormous calculation, avg level, buffs, upgrades etc calculate the average skill and base the difficulty on that. The CPU would probably start to smoke when we did that xD

Yes, the game is meant for 4 players. The SERVER on the other hand is meant for 10, so it has modifications that make the spawn levels of zombies higher. I do agree with your point, but your evidence of being smart is wrong.

Co-op automatically adjusts spawn rates and SI difficulty based on player numbers and player levels With all due respect, you shouldn't be dying on easy difficulty with two players.
