Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery"

Discussion in 'Videos' started by Blackheart6004, Jun 18, 2012.

  1. If you were in English 10/11 class and the teacher gave you a short story on "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, be sure to see the film version of it.

I was also surprised that it follows the story itself rather than minor changes to the story.

    PS: It's a two-part video.

I generally find two types of encapsulations of any rhetorical story made into a movie/film:

    1. It either follows the storyline spot-on, or
    2. There are changes made to the storyline

Every movie I've watched thus far that has to do with English class always followed #1, making the movie utterly boring. Last year we read Hamlet, and the movie was dead-on word for word, making it devastatingly boring. If they had translated the wording into modern English and added some CGI, the movie would have grossed so much more financially.

I never read "The Lottery," but I'll read it sometime soon and watch the 2-part film. Thanks for sharing the link :)

  3. Actually, what I meant was its a whole film. It's just broken up into 2 parts since user videos can only upload up to 9 mins on Youtube. The film itself is 17 mins long.

Yeah, I understood that the first time. What I meant by 2-part film was 1 film divided into two parts :P
