New (dedicated server based) Zombie MMORPG (Arma 2:CO Mod)

    Currently in "ALPHA" phase (Updated to BETA recently and most of the bugs in video fixed), but due this mod and its popularity, ARMA 2:CO is most bought game in steam store lol.

    How it works: Some users/communities setup their own servers like in CSS, (40-100 slots per servers). The servers act as "world" but the actual data is stored to the mod developer's own database. So if you disconnect from "Fragmasters" server and you join to DFSgamers server, you will continue from that same place with same items and stuffs as you had in fragmasters server. kinda like our Points Reloaded mod.

    Each dedicated server is provided by communities or private people expect the datacenter what is linked to every server.

    voice chat is somewhat important, as it's localized (100 meters) and people at far away cant hear you. you can also extend your voice chat range by yelling to the mic. Typing is also somewhat used.

    You can also team up with complete randoms and betray them later for items, but if you murder too much, you get marked as "outlaw".

    As for the world size, it would be massive. The mod-developers claims it equals: 225km. (update: lol it's too big for me :P)

    And best of all: if you die, there is no "respawn". it will be permanent death. meaning: you would need to create a new character (in game). so be careful.


    Also, if you move alone remember this: Be very cautious! even other players can kill you and steal all items from your inventory. and if you team up with someone, they can still betray you.

    Enviorment rules:

    Forest / Sewers:
    Less supplies
    Less chance of finding a working or "broken" car or heli (which can be repaired).
    Less Zombies
    Less players

    villages/roads/farms/open areas
    Moderate ammount of supplies
    Moderate chance of finding a working or broken vehicle
    Moderate ammount of zombies
    Moderate ammount of players that can be nearby

    City (For a group only)
    alot of supplies
    Alot of vehicles (working & broken)
    Alot of zombies
    Alot of players

    Each server has server time based on it's location. so If you play at night in EU servers, it will be pitch black so if you use flashlights or shoot or even worser: flares.. get the hell out of that place, as it will be full of zombies & hostile players eventually.

    Very realistic mod.

    Oh yeah I read about this game.

    This game is awesome.

    Totally want to buy it due to it having a great modding community. This Dayz mod looks amazing. Gonna buy it ASAP.

    Downloaded yesterday, playing in a minute :P

    Hope I can put up with arma's engine though, I never did like it much, the "realistic" movements made everything just feel laggy.

    On a side note, this is another game to look out for in the zombie genre (It's barely pre-alpha atm, so no representitive footage yet, alpha release in ~6 months): The Dead Linger; It's of the same vein as DayZ but hopefully will be even better (massive proceduraly generated world, free form barricading, large numbers of zombies can be on screen... etc).

    About time the developers realized that there are no zombie MMORPG games in the market yet..

    DayZ is the first step i dont want to miss..

    Noob tip: do NOT play on a local server at night, it's then night time in game which makes it increibly dark and you only get 10 flares and no torch.

    First impressions: It's alright, it is in alpha so teething issues are to be expected. For instance, the game relies on the modder's server to control player information, and it's very over-tasked at the moment, you'll be lucky to never encounter issues connecting to a server.

    In terms of gameplay, it is as I remember arma2 being; very clunky and slow movements, though I'm sure this is something that you get used to over time. There aren't a huge number of zombies, though they make up for it by being easily alerted to your presence and are as fast as you (personally I'm more of a fan of shambling zombies in huge numbers). Also zombies can walk through doors at the moment :/

    I'm going to try again soon, since I failed miserably in my first attempt, running out of ammo as I tried scavenging in a village (none of the houses could actually be entered }:|)

    Side note: If anyone is insistent on giving this a go, Amazon US seem to have lowered their price for the digital download of combined ops recently (I think you can buy it outside the US if you use a fake US address, but don't quote me on that :P) Or there is some way of getting the free version of arma2 and buying the Operation arrowhead expansion (cheaper) to run the mod but there are apparently some issues with this.

    I played it a bit last night, first server I joined worked fine. But I spawned at the beach by myself - no teammates for kilometres. A zombie showed up, I shot it to death, then I ran out of ammo. Soon another zombie came, I pressed every button I could trying to melee it, but for some reason my character was retarded and only punched a few times. I died then was disconnected from the server.

    The next few servers I tried had connection problems, then I finally was successful at joining again. But it was night-time, pitch dark, so I pressed every button trying to turn a light on but there was none. I thought "wtf?" then quit after a few minutes.

    Hopefully next time I play I actually spawn near teammates.:D

    its hard to find a working server as most of the server are too low end..

    only ones working without lag (In-game lag & slow connect/data load) so far:
    EU8, NL2, SE2, SE3, FI1, FI2, Chicago 6.

    If i can ever find out the controls.
    There are a lot,and even watching the introdution movies doesn't do it all.

    I was totally stuck with flares just now,coudnt get my weapon to shoot,and no clue how i can sprint,cause it doesn't do like i set the keys...

    Watching video again now :P

    Took me 30 mins :D

    press "f" to cycle weapons, and u throw the flare to the ground, and u go near it and press "enter" and pick it up. and so on..

    Well,i found out how to bandage and stuff.
    I joined in the morning,the sun was just coming up.
    Then i got killed by a bugged zombie,and when i pressed the respawn button nothing happend.

    It took me 15 to get into the game,when i joined it was dark again and i had nothing,not even a simple gun :(

    Ive been busy for at least 2 hours and played maybe 30 min :(

    once you die, you click "esc" you click "abort" then you click "disconnect" and then you are still in the server, and you click "ok". and the game loads again for 10-30 seconds and youre back in game.. i dont see any problem :P
