Ok so, I know we have custom achievements and we have a big stats db but I'm getting sick of hosting it. I'm working all day on it just to read another post that it only logs 25% of the player actions, man this is getting old I want to give it out of our hands and use gameme.

If we still want custom achievements, we can always do that anyway I think by hosting only that part ourselves, on a small database or maybe there's even a way to use that with gameme as well. Let them take care of our huge 4 gb db so we can focus on other things.

Besides, I think GameME is generally more interesting since it's more commercial and will attract more players if we have it, it looks more 'official'.

Sure we can start empty and it will work for a while, and then on the next crash kaboom the db is again screwed.

Im assuming everyones stats will be reset if its moved to gameME which kinda sucks but if its gotta be done its gotta be done.....ill roll with what ever :) i disagree on it looking more official though....imo HLstatsX looks more professional and in all honesty if you look at a players stats page on GameME it just looks like a watered down version of HLstatsX...that being said i just played for a couple of hours and its only logged 240 points where it should be around 1500 - 2000 points at least....so somethings definitely wrong...again :(

I'm cool either way but if stats do get reset, how are we gonna know playing time for admin applications? Can that info be kept for future reference?

This is what I have been bitching about the whole time, HLSTASTX is not keeping proper score. I hate to lose my spot but if the new one can solve it and be more reliable then have at it. It's always exciting gaining rank and I reached an impass a long time ago.

you can always base applications on references and reputation of players that apply, or refer players current admins deem fit for the job

I always said, better to start over again with right stats then keep on going with wrong stats.

What is making fun playing on the Marvel Servers is the different gameplay, the achievements, the community and ofcourse the stats. When I look at GameMe I see a little bit of info on players from different servers, not just 1 community like it is now. Now we have the Marvel community and the Marvel stats. So I often see the same players, I don't want to see how players from other servers are ranked, I don't know them... (not that I know every player on the Marvel servers..).
I'm playing for 1 year now just on the Marvel servers and the stats were ok almost all the time, it's just the last 1.5 months that the stats didn't work well.
Also on GameMe the stats will be reset every season, so you have to start over every 3 months....
So we don't loose just our stats, but I think we will also loose a piece of the community.

Btw, why it says Junior Member in stead of Donor?

GameME stats get resetted every season? lol I didn't knew that. I guess they do it for the same reason. They would never be able to handle the db load if they didn't.

I think we need to do the same then, start with a clean db with exception of the achievements and reset the stats every now and then.

How do you manage inactive players ?

Perhaps you can consider 2 databases, one for inactive players, and one for active players. Just transfer data from one db to another, and the load on the active players won't be as heavy.

    Make rules to define inactivity.
considerable amount of points and game time, say 30 days until they go inactive and get out of the active player db.
below 2k points in 10 days, with less than, say, 10 hours activity, can be deleted, or moved to the inactive player db.

There are many ways to avoid overloading the db

lol.. i would suggest to automatically remove any inactive players..

besides, if you were active once, it takes tons of time for your activity percentage to go -1.

and, not only that we support no-steam, but each time a no-steam player changes name, and rejoins, a new stats profile is created. This is becouse when you close the game as no-steam, and re-open it later, your steam id changes each time you launch the game..

Aw all my hard earned points down the drain. Did you know I used to get around 20,000 points a day (not a day's playing time which, for me, was around 5 hours but a days playtime...) according to the stats? I know. You could almost call it hacking, but this was when I wasn't even admin.

Just do it. Wipe the stats clean. Being number 1 no longer appeals to me, it lost it's appeal quite a while back actually. Through my time as a high ranked player I have learnt two things:

    • People don't care how highly ranked you are.
    • People just want to have fun!

Either make the stats more prominent after the database wipe or give incentives to players if they have a large sum of points and playtime this is so that people will look at the stats more. I spoke to a few regulars who didn't even know we had a stats page - which was extremely awkward.

When the load on the database becomes too big, maybe you can remove some data when it's possible? I think the event lines on the stats page is the biggest table? As I look to my stats it shows almost 1000 pages of 50 lines, making a total of 50000 (useless) lines in 2 weeks. When more players have so many lines you must have a very big table with just the event information. Maybe delete it every day?

This is exactly what I just did :) The DB went down from 4.4 GB size to only 340 MB and everything is working again :D

So maybe 4 Gb is the "magic limit" and the database gets corrupted when it grows bigger? Lol, at my office the biggest database is 91 Gb:P
