Approximately $0.6 for every GB transfered. Hungary will be the first country, where prostitution will be cheaper than downloading a full hd porn..

God forbid anybody who gets a virus, hijacked, or otherwise gets sucked into a botnet that's out of their control..

GG developement of internet technology.. Some fat officials are probly rubbing their hands right now.

    More about it here: http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/22/7038757/hungary-internet-tax

Im getting 1 Gbps internet on my apartment building next Januaray, but i might as well prepare for a brand new ISDN line since our goverment is quite adept in adding new taxes that are found in other countries..

Yeah man, went to Budapest this summer and although it's a lovely place, full of things to do and people, not sure I could live there other than temporarily.

    Crazy fucking idea though!

    37 pence per GB = $.59

I used 230 GB last month, so if I lived in Hungry, my ISP would pay an extra $135.70 to the govt for just one month of service from one customer. This would make me move.

In the US we have a bunch of random state/federal taxes that are added on to any telecom bill (phone/tv/internet). The closest thing I can think of is that for cell phone data plans Verizon/AT&T charge an additional fee if you go over your tiered data plan. If you have a data cap with your ISP then they just shut your service off for the rest of the billing cycle or you pay to go up to a higher tier.

We always kept hearing about charging a fee for e-mails (the post office theory), but that won't go anywhere soon.

All mobile data is capped here in the netherlands, we have a few 'unlimited' providers but they reduce your speed to 64 kbps after a few GB.

I have a 1 GB limit myself but I hardly use it, I'm around 250 mb each month since I'm on wifi networks all the time anyway, at home, at work even in the pub :)

    wow.. that must suck :D

I used 200GB over weekend in "middle of nowehere" to entertain myself over 3G HSDPA+. Now i just want LTE supported phone so i can get 4G speeds lol. If theres one thing our goverment is good at, making the ISP's deliver high quality mobile and broadband data services to everywhere across the country.

We also have like 10 ISP's which makes sure there are tons of competition and prices stay low and services stay up. To name few: Sonera, Elisa, Saunalahti, DNA, TeleFinland, KYMP, SSP, Ålcom (Ålands isle), and so on xD

This concept really worries me. I know they'll start taxing internet in the USA though. They always look for ways to extend taxation here.

Probably true of all places though.
