Softlayer Singapore Cancelation - Back to OVH

    Hi all,

    We ran a Softlayer Singapore server for a month now which I decided not to extend. The box is $219 each month and now Softlayer wants to surcharge us for additional traffic as well. We appreciate any donations being made but they are not covering this server, at this point most of the costs have to come out of our own pocket while at the same time we have a brand new Singapore OVH server standing idle which we got a 3 month free rental on. This is why I can't justify an extension.

    I mean I don't care throwing money at something because it's a hobby and it's worth it but at this point it just stops making sense for me to extend it for another month. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives but because of the plugins we use and the way we rely on database latency we can't just use regular game hosting providers.

    Anyway, I will bring back OVH Singapore servers tonight, I know latency/routing is worse than Softlayer but it improved already and it will continue to improve. It just requires some patience.

    omg $209+ /month. it's like 2.5 OVH Singapore servers. lol you can host two game servers and one website at that price. Cancel it before they steal all your money lol.

    Well they want me to use it one more month before I can cancel it so it will be active until 06/06.

    So the point I can confirm is... When we do get the OVH Singapore servers back around the beginning of June does that mean you still have the same duration of 3 months of free rental given they won't be used between now up until the date?

    Also don't mind if I ask. Approximately how much are the OVH singapore servers per month after the free rental period ends? (to the nearest figure in dollars) (assume that the price will be the same, with or without any discount, feel free to correct me on that)

    I'm sure that when the time comes, I can get used to the latency experienced on ASIA COOP/VS with OVH singapore in place which hopefully isn't too much of a difference for me lol. Anyways Marvel I appreciate the fact that you told us that we would still be having ASIA COOP/VS around on mgftw for quite some time to come. Every day the 1 thing I always see on sourcebans is that ASIA COOP has always had a full to near-full server mostly 18/7, keeping it a very popular server to be on for players of all levels. all the other servers also seem to be alive and kicking too with some players on daily.

    Lets not forget that EU COOP also sometimes is full at the same time that ASIA COOP is also full, it doesn't happen to be full for as long as ASIA COOP is but it is quite frequently being filled up with players.

    I'm looking forward to whats in store for us with OVH singapore. :smiley-happy014:

    No the 3 months free started like ehmm 2 months ago I think ;) It runs a MySQL database instance for PR now though so it's not 100% idle but yeah it's not doing a lot. That server is € 89,- when it's not free, so a lot cheaper than Softlayer and full DDoS protection.

    And yeah you're right I can't think of MG without Asia anymore, it brings new players to the other locations as well and it's full a lot of the time. I was a bit scared of it cannibalizing players from the other servers but that's not the case at all. Anyway I'm sure OVH will fix their shit, as of now they got another month to do so so we'll see by then, it can only get better :)
